Epic's investment into picking up @natenanzer for their esports team is super promising and comforting.
It tells us that they are aware that the scene is not perfect, that they want to make changes, and that they have intentions for plans after World Cup.
It may be extremely frustrating at times but the first Fortnite event was 10 months ago, not even a year yet. Some games have been at it for YEARS. Best thing Fortnite could have done to help them get to a state in esports was bring in someone who already has experience!
Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer has announced his departure from Activision Blizzard. He will join Epic Games to work on Fortnite esports, a game that's had it share of troubles in the past year despite huge prize pools. Report: https://ukrn.io/si69022 pic.twitter.com/JdVztg3YQX
the real question is WHY? Big payday? Did Epic just roll up with a wad of cash or was he trying to gtfoh... hmmm
If you believe esports has a future, then you should believe that @natenanzer got plucked for an excellent opportunity. People complain about GOATS, but the speed and precision of the tops teams is something to see.
I agree, it still makes me sad because of the impact he has had, but I’m sure he’ll fix the Fortnite competitive scene and make an impact there too.
Can’t wait to see this game competitively in the long run I have lots of hope
He probably left to fix the shit storm that is competitive fortnite. Epic games needs someone like him
Another huge component of the Nate Nanzer thing--Epic now owns Psyonix. That means Nanzer could potentially oversee Rocket League esports, which is an ideal candidate for an OWL-style franchise system.
excited for Nate Nanzer to bring geolocation to fortnite. 100 cities. 100 players. 1 winner.
Gotta say it, a leadership change only 7 months away from home games every week: That's gonna be a yikes from me dawg.
Hey Overwatch League family. I wanted to share that soon I will be leaving Blizzard for a new opportunity. This has been the toughest decision of my life, because it means I won’t get to work with the best staff, players, teams, owners, partners, and fans in esports anymore. 1/4
I can’t emphasize enough how proud I am of what we’ve all accomplished together. It has been the honor of my life to have been part of the team that helped build the league of #breakthrough, #BurnBlue, #pdomjnate, #CaptureHistory, #OWL2019, and many more. 2/4
I get way too much credit for the success of the Overwatch League. It’s been awesome to be our public face, but too many overestimate my role in making the league great. It isn’t about me; it’s never been. It’s about all of you. 3/4
That’s why I’m confident the league is in great hands. I can’t wait to see where the team takes the Overwatch League in 2020 - and beyond. And I’ll be cheering right there alongside you, every step of the way. 4/4
