  1. Socialism and the Fight Against Imperialist War

Socialism and the Fight Against Imperialist War

One hundred years after the outbreak of World War One, mankind confronts the danger of a new and even greater catastrophe. An imperialist bloodbath is not only possible; it is inevitable unless the international working class intervenes on the basis of a revolutionary Marxist program. The International Committee of the Fourth International insists that the struggle against war is inseparable from the struggle for socialism. This pamphlet contains statements and resolutions of the ICFI, the Socialist Equality Party (US) and the Partei für Soziale Gleichheit of Germany on the fight against imperialist war. Learn More

  2. Marxism by V.I. Lenin

    Marxism by V.I. Lenin

Excellent summary by V.I. Lenin of the historical, philosophical and economic foundations of Marxism. Lenin wrote "The Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism" as a tribute marking the thirtieth anniversary of Marx's death. This short work has become one of the best known introductions to the complex theories of Marxism, precisely explaining how Marx "continued and consummated" classical German philosophy, English political economy and French socialism and revolutionary doctrine. Lenin introduces the reader to the most essential concepts of Marxism an "integral and harmonious" scientific theory based on a dialectical and historical materialist understanding of society and the development of social knowledge. He then provides a brief exposition of Marx's development of the labor theory of value, the theory of the class struggle, and Marx's unique and most significant contribution to political economy, the theory of surplus value. 3. The Struggle Against Imperialism and for Workers' Power in Iran

The Struggle Against Imperialism and for Workers' Power in Iran

This pamphlet addresses pivotal issues of socialist strategy in a country that for decades has been a target of US imperialist intrigue and aggression, and where the working class, as heralded by the protests that opened 2018, is now striving to find the road of independent class struggle. Based on an examination of Iran’s history and the global struggle against imperialism, the pamphlet demonstrates that a viable strategy to defeat imperialism can only be founded on the working class, and requires its mobilization as an independent political force in opposition to all factions of the bourgeoisie.

  4. The Heritage We Defend (30th Anniv. Edition): A Contribution to the History of the Fourth International

The Heritage We Defend (30th Anniv. Edition): A Contribution to the History of the Fourth International

The 2018 edition of the foundational 1988 work by David North, chairman of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site, contains a new preface, photo section, and an extensive glossary.

The work reviews the political and theoretical disputes inside the Fourth International, the international Marxist movement founded by Leon Trotsky in 1938. It is a devastating reply to former WRP General Secretary Michael Banda's document "27 Reasons why the International Committee Should be Buried Forthwith and the Fourth International Built."

  5. The World Socialist Web Site and the Defense of Julian Assange

The World Socialist Web Site and the Defense of Julian Assange

For six years, Julian Assange, who exposed the crimes of the US military and intelligence apparatus, has been imprisoned in London, trapped in the Ecuadorean embassy under increasingly onerous and precarious conditions. Now he has been denied any contact with the outside world, unable to receive visitors, make phone calls or access the Internet. The perpetrators of this crime are not the governments routinely denounced as “rogue regimes” by imperialist powers and targeted for military aggression, but the imperialist powers themselves—principally the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. The attack on Assange is the spearhead of a drive by the major capitalist governments led by the United States to censor the internet and destroy democratic rights. It is being abetted by the silence of virtually the entire coterie of pseudo left groups. Since 2010 when Assange was forced to seek refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London the World Socialist Web Site has been in the forefront of his defense. The collection of articles in this pamphlet are a record of that campaign. Learn More

  6. The 2018 Teacher Rebellion

    The 2018 Teacher Rebellion

An upsurge of mass teachers strikes and protests, unprecedented in the US for over 40 years, erupted in six states across the US between February and June 2018. In West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Colorado, Arizona and North Carolina teachers and school workers marched, protested, defied state anti-strike laws, challenged both Democratic and Republican lawmakers and gave voice to the outrage of millions of educators, parents and students over the ongoing destruction of public education and the terrible growth of social inequality. The articles in this pamphlet are a record of this struggle and document the intervention of the Socialist Equality Party which fought at every point to give this movement a conscious political direction. 7. Why Study the Russian Revolution

    Why Study the Russian Revolution

The 1917 Russian Revolution was the most significant event of the 20th century. The taking of power by the Russian working class under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky transformed the course of human history and reverberates to this day. Between February and October 1917 Russia was shaken by two monumental revolutions. The first overthrew the Romanov aristocracy that had ruled for more than 300 years. The second overthrew the bourgeois Provisional Government and established the first socialist workers state in history. These events continue to generate debate and controversy. The essays in these two volumes are unique in that they are written from a Marxist perspective looking back from the vantage point of 100 years and putting the events of 1917 in a contemporary perspective under conditions of a world wracked by immensesocial and political contradictions. 8. Fight plant closures: The case for rank-and-file factory committees

Fight plant closures: The case for rank-and-file factory committees

The announcement by General Motors in November 2018 of the closure of five factories in North America and the elimination of some 15,000 jobs is a frontal attack on autoworkers and the entire working class. The jobs massacre is the spearhead for a new restructuring, threatening the jobs of millions around the world. The consequences of GM's closure of plants in Detroit, Michigan; Lordstown, Ohio; and Oshawa, Ontario will be devastating for autoworkers and these communities. This attack calls for a unified international response by the working class. Central to this is the formation of rank-and-file factory committees, independent from the corporatist trade unions, to link autoworkers with other sections of the working class coming into struggles, such as teachers, Amazon workers, steelworkers, and United Parcel Service workers. This pamphlet outlines the central political and historical issues in this fight and makes the case for rank-and-file factory committees, independent of the unions, and a socialist political movement of the working class. 9. Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement

Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement

Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement uses archival evidence to shed new light on how the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union spied on and infiltrated the world Trotskyist movement from the 1930s through the 1980s.

Beginning in the 1930s, both governments succeeded in placing high-level agents within the American Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party (SWP). Through their network of spies, the Stalinist secret police—the GPU—were able to orchestrate the assassination of Leon Trotsky, co-leader of the Russian Revolution, in Mexico City in August 1940. The FBI used their network of undercover agents to prepare the conviction of 18 members of the SWP in 1941 for on charges of sedition, under the recently passed Smith Act. In both cases, the infiltration continued well past the early 1940s.

Why Are They Back? Historical Falsification, Political Conspiracy, and the Return of Fascism in Germany

The appointment of Adolf Hitler in January 1933 as Chancellor of Germany was the outcome not of an election, but of a political conspiracy involving a small number of senior military and government officials headed by General Paul von Hindenburg. Its horrific consequences were World War II, the Holocaust and the destruction of tens of millions of lives.

Nearly 75 years after the fall of the Third Reich, the neo-Nazi right has once again become a major political force in Germany. Why Are They Back? analyzes the interaction of high-level political conspirators, media propagandists and right-wing academics at Berlin’s Humboldt University in the present-day resurgence of Nazism and German militarism.
