Job Title: Data Center Engineer (part-time contractor)
Hours/week: ~20
Location: Ashburn, Virginia
Responsibilities
- Perform data center operations and basic system administration duties
- Racking of servers, network devices and other equipment
- Cabling, clean cable routing and cable management
- Handling and resolving tasks provided via a ticket tracking system
- Data center logistics, assisting with shipping, provisioning and decommissioning processes
- Hardware problem identification and resolution, working with hardware vendor support teams and submitting RMA requests
- Assist with asset and inventory management of hardware and data center supplies
- Emergency response to system outages
- Junior level system administration tasks
- Share our values and work in accordance with them
Qualifications
- 1+ year of hands-on experience working in a data center environment working with physical servers and/or 2 years of related college course work
- 1+ year Linux/Unix system administration experience in a work or school environment
- Troubleshooting skills in server and network equipment
- Familiarity with data center power and cooling concepts
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team
- Ability to be on your feet all day
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Pluses
- Experience with electrical systems/cabling installation work
- Familiarity with provisioning and managing Linux systems
- Familiarity with DCIM tools
- Familiarity with network device (switch) configuration
Location
The position is based in Ashburn, Virginia, on-site at the Equinix data center campus.
