Cloudflare Branding Guidelines and General Trademark License

Since our launch in 2010, the Cloudflare brand has come to stand for something more than just our products and services. The Cloudflare brand is an important symbol of our company’s efforts to build a better Internet.

Given our inherent pride in our brand, we have created these guidelines and general trademark license to make it as fun, easy, flexible, and accessible for our customers, partners, and fans to work with our brand, while preserving our corporate identity. If you need to use Cloudflare icons, logos, or other marks in ways that materially differ from these guidelines, you will need to contact Cloudflare for a written license. While you may use Cloudflare marks per these guidelines, it does not mean that you have any vested rights in Cloudflare Marks, logos, or in any other trademark, trade name, service mark, business name or goodwill of Cloudflare. We want to grant as much flexibility as possible; however, our lawyers have to earn their keep by protecting Cloudflare against any unauthorized use of any trademark, trade name, service mark, business name or goodwill of Cloudflare. Any unauthorized use automatically terminates the permission or license granted by Cloudflare and may incur legal liabilities for any damages.

So, please use all Cloudflare marks and logos in a form that adheres to the rules below, including capitalization, typeface, and style.

Web Badges

Cloudflare web badges are available to tell your visitors that your website is protected and accelerated by Cloudflare services. Not only do you let your visitors know your site is fast and safe, but you’re scoring some serious karma by spreading the word about Cloudflare by adding a badge to your site. You can obtain Cloudflare web badges from this page. Please do not alter Cloudflare web badges in any way (e.g. stretched out, different colors, etc).

Cloudflare® in text

Here’s how to use our name in written copy:

Cloudflare® should have a registered trademark symbol the first time it appears in a creative copy.
Cloudflare spelling should never be changed and Cloudflare should always be capitalized. It is never plural or possessive.
"Cloudflare" should not be used as part of a brand name, joined with a hyphen, or used in names of applications or other products.

Instead use "for Cloudflare".
Incorrect: "iCloudflare”
Incorrect: "My Cloudflare App"
Correct: "My App for Cloudflare®”
Correct: “Hosting Company’s Special Promotion for Cloudflare® subscriptions”

If used with a third party logo, "for Cloudflare" needs to be smaller in size than the third party logo.
Cloudflare should be used as an adjective and followed by a proper generic term.

Incorrect: "Cloudflare Optimizer"
Correct: "Cloudflare services"

Cloudflare should never be used as a verb.

Incorrect: “we Cloudflared our site.”
Correct: “we use Cloudflare services to make our site faster, safer, and smarter.”

Any use of the Cloudflare name in communications requires the attribution: Cloudflare is a registered trademark of Cloudflare, Inc.

Unacceptable Uses

Our lawyers made us say this:

Only accurate references are acceptable. It is not permissible to say that a site uses Cloudflare services and applications when it does not. Similarly, the use of web badges is likewise only appropriate when the site uses Cloudflare services.
We know you would never do this, but Cloudflare trademarks, graphic symbols, logos, typeface, or icons may not be used in a disparaging manner.
You may not use any Cloudflare trademark or logo which would imply that Cloudflare has an affiliation with or endorsement, sponsorship, or support of a third party product or service, without express written permission.
Under no circumstances shall an identical or nearly identical Cloudflare trademark be used as a domain name.
Third parties should not use variations or misspellings or act in any way that would cause any initial interest confusion over Cloudflare trademarks.
Other than Certified Partners, Authorized Resellers, or Optimized Partners, third parties may not bid for keywords, Google AdWords, or other targeted advertising systems using Cloudflare marks or misspellings. Nor may third parties use Cloudflare marks in domain names, any search engine optimization, meta tags, search terms, code, or other misrepresentation.

Some of our logos and marks are restricted to being used by Cloudflare and its partners. Third parties may not use the following marks without a written license from Cloudflare:
