    Shorten’s was real, but no political leader I’ve heard has clearly admitted how politicians failed survivors for decades. That’s the apology I was waiting for today.

    An apology by the same sort of god botherers and Catholics as caused lifetimes of suffering for victims is completely hollow. Change the law to protect victims, believe victims, believe parents, lower the burden of proof (sexual abuse has no witnesses) etc

    From the Royal Commission we have learned that powerful institutions will often set arbitrary limits on access to justice, and we should resist these at every point. It’s time to remove these remaining barriers. Being sorry means doing sorry.

    One of the most glaring obstacles to justice is the exclusions from the redress scheme that mean people who live overseas, are not citizens of Australia or who have a criminal record cannot seek compensation for the horrific harm they have suffered.
