Alert: House searches, arrests and custodies!

  Today wednesday 20th of june 2018 the struggle against the cigeo project was hit by a wave of police raids. At 7 am the House of Resistance in Bure was searched. At this point the searches are still going on. 8 homes and collective places have been simultaneously searched. In all these places the reasons for the raids were barely or not at all given. The rogatory letters were  not presented in many cases. According to a press release by AFP (Agence France Presse) taking over the declarations of the prosecutor Glady, the raids are linked to “three cases from 2017”. Last september raids already happened under this pretext. Until now at least 8 people have been taken into custody after being subject to targeted arrestations. An exceptional search procedure has been used against a lawyer to enable his arrestation. The police operation is still going on and we suspect that the oucome of the day will still get worse.

  We want to underline that the incidents of today are the climax  of a week of intensified repression. The military occupation specifically targets our ability to gather and more generally our daily life on the territory. During this week there has been an even higher military presence around the villages of Mandres-en-Barrois and Bure than it has already been the case since the eviction of the forest, accompanied by car searches and an increased ammount of ID controls which included people getting taken to the police station for that purpose. During the day of the mobilization and the weekend of 16th/17th of june at least 19 arrestations took place. This monday three people received heavy sentences related to the demonstration of the 16th and two of them are presently in prison. Since the beginning of the week six persons have been arrested in Bure and its surroundings. This threat of being arrested is permanent and the means that are deployed are enormous (hundreds of officers of the military police – gendarmerie mobile, horses, drones, light plane, cameras of all kinds…). Despite this large state operation which is aimed at intimidating us, we continue to be determined in our struggle against the CIGEO project, against ANDRA and its world. We widely call for gatherings today at 6 pm in front of prefectures, embassies or consulates all over France and the world in order to show solidarity with this struggle, with the people currently in custody or imprisoned.

Bure a Bar: a short and subjective overview of the 16th of June

Four month after the eviction of the occupied forest Bois Lejuc (1), at the 16th of june there was a demo at Bar-le-Duc against CIGEO(2) which brought 3000 people to the streets(3).

Here is a short summarize about some happenings on this day. For sure it’s not complete and this article does not represent everyone’s opinion.

The day started with discussions, food and distros from very different protagonists in the struggle. Later in the afternoon the actual demo started.

The way how the people expressed their opposition was very diverse. People were making choregraphies, farmers came with their tractors, the clowns made some creative mess together with two gigantic owls puppet made of wood and cotton. More than a hundred people used the black bloc tactics to target companies that belong to / work for ANDRA (4), as well as a job center, and to cover the walls along the way with slogans against CIGEO, patrarchy, capitalism and so on. Of course this mixture of strategies didn’t work out without raising conflicts, as for example pacifists using physical violence to stop people from attacking companies. But there where as well moments when unmasked dancing people made a barrier between cops and black-blocks to prevent the black block to be isolated from the rest of the demo or protecting injured people from getting arrested.

The demo ended in front of the prefecture (local government), later in the evening cops arrested several people around and at the place, controlling cars and people at the country-roads between Bar-le-Duc and Bure. As well a concert which was planned on the same evening was forbidden. The cops threatened they would raid the place if it would take place.

While the official medias reported 1 lightly injured person and 6 injured cops, the street medics dealed with over 30 injuries due to tonfa hits from which caused multiple heavy injures including mild concussion, several rubberbullet hits and people badly effected by face to face pepperspray. Several injured people had to go to hospital.

In total, around 15 people had been taken under arrest; one on the way to the demo, 4 during clashes inside the demo, and the rest during the evening until the middle of the night. Three people were convoked for immediate trial on Monday at the TGI of Bar-le-Duc, the others had been released without charges or with future convocation to court.

From our point of view, knowing the quite specific circumstances of this demonstration taking place in a small country side city, and putting together ecologists, legalists as well as anti-capitalist anarchists, with their respective ways of action, we think it was a quite interesting and unexpected demo.

After knowing Bar-le-Duc mainly from going to trials, it was the first time we take its streets and express our rage about all the evictions and repression of the last months.

We hope to be able to see our arrested comrades soon on free foot.

Action call out : the CIGEO monsters

In France, the national agency ANDRA is planning the construction of a huge center for burrying nuclear waste called CIGEO. The entire CIGEO project is a kind of Frankenstein which is made from the core ingredients of capitalist power. ANDRA – company on the front line of CIGEO is just the well made up face of this creature hiding the enormous complexity of connections between civil and military industry, state and finance sector. Digging a bit one can easily realize that divisions between civil and military, state and corporations, public and private, national and international are nonetheless just illusions.

Untill now, the main struggle against the nuclear dumpster took place in Bure in Meuse department (where the project is planned to be established) and surrounding departments. 30 years of struggle with a large palette of tactics like juridical attacks, pickets, demos, hundreds of different actions, occupations and sabotage allowed to delay CIGEO’s process. However it has its price. Capitalist and state alliance proved its determination increasing the land grabbing, the blackmailing and the repression like evictions, trials and jail. After last eviction of occupied Lejuc Forest, ANDRA, preparing itself to push further the project, is calling for contracts for drilling, construction, surveillance, security and risk management services. State already gave its hand by “securing” the place constantly keeping in Bure and surroundings high number of gendarme forces proving once again that nuclear power always means militarization.

It became visible that struggle focused only on local aspect might not be enough anymore. We have to start attacking the whole structure, and not only the visible top of the iceberg. This is the reason of this appeal.

Contractors of ANDRA are often international corporations. While the place of CIGEO project is more and more a military stronghold full of surveillance and state violence, the weak points of the whole structure could be find in other places. They can put enormous number of armed forces in one place but they are not able to secure all the places where the corporations working on CIGEO are. Let’s start focusing on all their weak points until ANDRA has no contractors anymore to do their dirty jobs.

We are not asking for any specific type of action : be creative and feel free to do whatever you would like to.

In France, the campaigns targets specifically a company called Ingérop. They are mostly present in France but also have agencies elsewhere in the world. On the other pages you will find lists of other companies that work for the Cigéo project.

After june 16th let’s continue in Bure

You had a wonderful day of discussion and demo the 16 ? But the party is not over yet ! Demonstrating in Bar le Duc is nice but taking care of the struggle against CIGEO directly where it is happening as well. It is why we decided to organise an after of the 16 which will take lots of faces.

We will start the sunday 17 with some discussions the morning in Bar <<Le Juc>> and a concert the evening in bure.

Then there will be a big week-end of workshops from wednesday 20 to sunday 24 taking place in the different living and struggling places around Bure. If for the moment we don’t live in the Bois Lejuc we are still developping other places to live and organize. Some words on what we want to make from this divided by themes.

In the nexts months, ANDRA could start to build the railway that will bring the nuclear waste or send big machines to cut the Wood, so we propose somes workshop to organise our resistance.

A bit of legal information :

The blue team is getting very active around here. there is not a day without people and cars getting searched. Cops cannot search cars or peoples neither ask for passengers ids in cars without a “réquisition” for the precise time and place. There are annoying so the least we can do is annoy them. BUT THEY WILL NOT PREVENT US FROM HAVING FUN AND STRGGLING AGAINST CIGEO AND ITS WORLD !

At the house of resistance, lately, the cops keep on patrolling around the house and some others stay 24/7 near the villagehall of bure and in others villages nearby, they are also patrolling around the others places/houses of friendsactivists on the zone.

this afternoon :

in front of the house of resistance, 2 friendsactivists and 1 journalist are being controled, 1 had been palpated

close to the control…

The persons who had been controled were able to go without problems, the cops too… (pity)
