Esra’a Al Shafei is a Bahraini human rights activist and founder of Majal.org, a network of digital platforms that amplify under-reported and marginalized voices. She is currently a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab and serves on the Board of Trustees at the Wikimedia Foundation.
The topics I chose highlight the need to pursue strategies to protect expression on the open web in a media landscape cluttered with censorship and corporate models that place power and profit before integrity and accessibility.
