Anastasius I Dicorus
Anastasius I (Latin: Flavius Anastasius Dicorus Augustus, Greek: Ἀναστάσιος; c. 431 – 9 July 518) was Byzantine Emperor from 491 to 518. During his reign the Roman eastern frontier underwent extensive re-fortification, including the construction of Dara, a stronghold intended to counter the Persian fortress of Nisibis. During his reign, one of the most fortified castle cities on the Adriatic, Durrës Castle in Durrës, was constructed.
Background and personal characteristics
Anastasius was born at Dyrrhachium, the date is unknown, but he is thought to have been born no later than 430 or 431. He was born into an Illyrian family, the son of Pompeius (born c. 410), nobleman of Dyrrachium, and wife Anastasia Constantina (born c. 410). His mother was an Arian, sister of Clearchus, also an Arian, and a paternal granddaughter of Gallus (born c. 370), son of Anastasia (born c. 352) and husband, in turn daughter of Flavius Claudius Constantius Gallus and wife and cousin Constantina.

Prophecy of Seventy Weeks
The Prophecy of Seventy Weeks in chapter 9 of the Book of Daniel tells how a prophecy was given to Daniel by the angel Gabriel subsequent to the former's prayer that God would act on behalf of his people and city, which are respectively in exile and remain desolate within the narrative setting of this chapter. The prophecy has proved notoriously difficult for readers despite the fact that it has been the subject of "intense exegetical activity" since the Second Temple period. For this reason, scholars continue to follow Montgomery in referring to the history of this prophecy's interpretation as the "dismal swamp" of critical exegesis.
Summary
Daniel reads in the "books" that the desolation of Jerusalem must last for seventy years according to the prophetic words of Jeremiah, and prays for God to act on behalf of his people and city. The angel Gabriel appears and tells Daniel that he has come to give wisdom and understanding, for at the beginning of Daniel's prayer a "word" went out and Gabriel has come to declare this revelation:
