Wow. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is on video, seen for the first time since the declaration of the Caliphate. He looks healthy—older, but aren’t we all—and is talking calmly about recent events. He’s alive.

So far the message is noteworthy mostly for the timeline. (It’s very recent. Sri Lanka!) His complexion looks healthy, not like someone living in a spiderhole. Right ear ugly, but maybe it was always that way. Frank’s sign?

Baghdadi does not appear to be injured or thin as some have suggested. Time-stamps the video by talking about Baghouz and mentions events as recent as the Sri Lanka attacks.

5) There is serious danger not only to the fact that Baghdadi, ’ so-called Caliph, is still alive--but also that he is able to reemerge to his supporters and reaffirm the group’s us-vs-the-world message after all the progress made against the group.
