Social media companies think that "hiding the likes" is a genius move to take control of an advertising metric, but all they're doing is revaluing their Zimbabwean Internet Dollars in the belief that no-one will realize the chocolate coin isn't just a $100,000,000,000,000 bill.

No-one wants to talk about the phantom followings that aren't, technically, bought, but are gotten through media campagns and TV chyrons and dark pattern UI buttons and various other shonky nonsense that never once resulted in a human being reading anything

I keep reading stories about the instagram influencer with millions of followers who couldn't sell 36 shirts but none seem particularly interested in even checking how the followers were acquired.
