Guernsey woman Jean Dean wins NASA Astronomy Picture Of The Day prize of Rosette Nebula

Jean Dean, 60, (pictured left) spent five nights in her garden on the Channel Islands capturing images of the star cluster (right), which is located 5,000 light-years away from Earth in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way. She sent it off to NASA's Astronomy Picture Of The Day competition but didn't think anything would come of it. So Mrs Dean was astounded when she was told she had won the April 12 prize, saying: 'As an amateur, to have an image picked for an APOD is a great honour and it was a marvellous surprise.' The Rosette Nebula is a cloud of dust containing enough gas to create around 10,000 stars - similar to the sun.

Disgusting moment a python is forced to regurgitate a rooster it ate after sneaking into a chicken coop

Stomach-churning footage shows the snake thrashing about on the floor as it slowly throws up the feathered creature after swallowing it in a garden in Chonburi, Thailand, last week. Feet first, the bird is squeezed out of the reptile's jaws but, to the dismay of farmer Khun Kittisak who had called in the snake catchers, his rooster was dead. Handling an snake straight after it has eaten, like the two catchers do, is a technique of getting the animal to throw up its food.

The animal's 30-minute rampage is quickly stopped when officers shoot a tranquilliser dart into its hide. Spanich Civil Guards had tracked the bull to the municipality of Galapagar, near Madrid, after it escaped from a farm in the neighboring Collado Villalba district. Heartwarming moment Disney character Stitch consoles a toddler who fell flat on her face as she rushed to meet him by pretending to trip too - then giving her a big hug

Little Emily, 2, was overcome with emotion when she came face-face with Stitch, who appeared in Disney's Lilo & Stitch film in 2002 at Disneyland in California. When the youngster tumbled over, Stitch fell in exactly the same way and then rolled over. Stitch's sweet actions appeared to stem Emily's tears and the little girl got up and walked up to her hero as he lay on the ground. He then got to his knees and gave Emily a hug before placing a flower bracelet on her wrist.

The footage was filmed by the speedy cat's owner, Mr Wang, in Guangdong, China and he recorded himself dangling the catnip toy tantalisingly out of the reach of the feline.
