The Alan Roberts Prize

An annual prize for the best essay related to ecology, social life or a politics for the future

Prize value: $1000 AUD and publication in Arena Magazine*

Social life for people all over the world has become increasingly difficult. Science and technology are transforming worlds; work and life are increasingly precarious; climate change and nuclear threat hover as potential catastrophes for all humanity and life on earth.

 As perspectives on life and society from the twentieth century struggle to make sense of what is happening, we hope entrants for this prize will help to develop insights for a politics for the future.

The Alan Roberts Prize will be awarded for the best writing in the following areas:

  • Science and technology from a critical perspective
  • Nuclear energy, nuclear weaponry and disarmament
  • Ecology, humanity and the fate of the planet
  • New social forms and a politics of the future

Word length: up to 3000–3500 words
