Prince Louis smiles for the camera on his first birthday as he shows off a toothy grin

Little Prince Louis looks gleeful as he crawls, covered in moss, around the garden in three photographs released by Kensington Palace to mark his first birthday today. The Duchess of Cambridge, a keen amateur photographer, took the glorious portraits at the family's Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, earlier this month. And how time has flown! The last time we saw Louis - who bears a striking resemblance to his mother at his age - was on the Cambridge family's Christmas card when he was just a babe in arms. Now Louis is crawling - and very proud of himself, too, by the looks of it. The fifth in line to the throne is beginning to look more and more like older brother George, with his sweep of blond hair no doubt smoothed with the same styling balm that Kate, 37, uses on her eldest son. And it's not just the coiffure he's adopted - under his red wool jumper, Louis appears to be wearing one of George's romper suits, identifiable by its distinctive Peter Pan collar with blue piping. In another photo, Louis wears an adorable blue cashmere mix jumper with a puppy motif from upmarket store Trotters.

New IRA admits being responsible for killing Lyra McKee

Using a recognised code word the New IRA offered 'full and sincere apologies' to Lyra McKee's family and friends and said it had 'instructed our volunteers to take the utmost care in future'. The republican splinter group said 29-year-old journalist Ms McKee (pictured top) had died 'in the course of attacking the enemy' when she was shot and fatally wounded by a gunman who was aiming to kill police in Londonderry. Police believe the violence was orchestrated in response to an earlier search by officers, aimed at averting trouble associated with this week's anniversary of the Easter Rising. Pictured bottom: a CCTV image of the man suspected of firing the fatal shots; inset: members of Saoradh, a republican group linked to the New IRA, at a commemoration in Belfast yesterday.

British brother and sister fled who first Sri Lankan blast only to be killed by second

But both teenagers died moments later when a second terrorist detonated a bomb in the corridor of the hotel. More than 300 people, including eight Britons, were killed in Easter Sunday's eight coordinated attacks on the island which targeted Christian worshippers and tourists in hotels. British lawyer Ben Nicholson confirmed he had lost his wife and two children in one of the blasts. Secretly FILMED while you shop: How big stores including Tesco, Sainsbury, Boots and the Co-op use cameras on shelves to 'manipulate' customers into spending more

Tesco, Boots, Sainsbury's and Co-op all commissioned SBXL, a little-known behavioural analysis agency, to record customers in their aisles. SBXL boasts it can use the footage to 'manipulate' the emotions and behaviour of shoppers - and raise takings. The firm, which has also worked with L'Oreal, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Danone and Kellogg's, said adequate signage was in place and consent was sought from customers. However, the Information Commissioner's Office said last night that it would examine the Daily Mail's findings to check for breaches of data protection laws. Some of the stores whose customers were filmed by SBXL also claim that appropriate signage was in place, or consent sought. However none has provided evidence to prove this. Andy Bromley, the firm's sales chief, showed a Mail undercover reporter footage taken in UK shops, telling her: 'These people don't know they're being filmed.' This is despite SBXL later insisting it had not carried out covert recording.

Tonight high-flying lawyer Mr Nicholson paid tribute to his 'amazing, intelligent and talented' family and said they 'brought joy to the lives of everyone'. He said they had 'mercifully died instantly and with no pain or suffering' in the Table One cafe on the second-floor of the hotel in the country's capital at around 8.30am. They were on a family holiday when they got caught up in the attacks, which Sri Lankan authorities have blamed on a little-known Islamist group called National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ), which were said to have had 'international help'.
