Captain Cook, Joseph Banks and smallpox

This article is an oldie but a goodie, I wrote it a few years ago. I thought I had already put it up on Paradigm Oz but I was wrong, so here it is.

This is an article about covert biological warfare, Captain Cook and Joseph Banks, about the deliberate infection of disease which spread like wildfire accross the nation.

The historical context for the discovery of Australia was the defeat and withdrawall of the British forces from America after a protracted war with theFrench, the indigenous and the new white americans in America and Canada as well as the French and spanish and others in the global conflict. . Britain had sustained a tremendously expensive war and the dillemma for its government and royalty was whether to defend their colonies militarily at further expense or allow political independance and attempt to develop trade advantage with the new nation. Cooks voyages of discovery occured during the transition from one to the other.

Sacrosanct State and Complacent West

By Jeremy Salt – Ankara

'Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.' -- Barrack Obama

'I've been to Gilo and seen the security fence protecting Israeli families from attacks in their own homes.' -- Hillary Clinton

'When I heard about the rocket fire at Israel I felt it was a danger to Italy and to the entire West.' -- Silvio Berlusconi

'While we speak here today thousands of people are living in fear and dread of missile attacks and acts of terror by Hamas.' -- Angela Merkel

These quotes are chosen at random from a script written in the theatre of the absurd known as ‘the west’. Does Barrack Obama, the Harvard law graduate, not know that Jerusalem is an occupied city? Does Hillary Clinton not know that the Israeli ‘families’ living at Gilo have built their homes on land belonging to someone else? Does Silvio Berlusconi seriously regard Hamas rocket attacks as a threat to Italy and even the ‘entire West’? Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton were speaking at the AIPAC conference in Washington last June, Angela Merkel in the Knesset in March and Silvio Berlusconi at Sharm al Shaikh this week. He and other European ‘leaders’, as they are called, Merkel, Sarkozy and Gordon Brown among them, had gathered in Egypt to ‘discuss’ Gaza with Husni Mubarak and Mahmud Abbas, i.e to tell them what their part would be in the European plan to bring peace to Gaza.

Remember that during the three weeks of Israel’s onslaught on Gaza close to 500 children were amongst the 1300 people killed. More than 85 per cent of them were civilians. As bodies are still being pulled out of the rubble it will be some time before the final civilian death toll is known. Banned weapons were used. Whole families were massacred and whole streets destroyed with bunker buster bombs. The living was left for days alongside the dead because Israeli soldiers prevented ambulances and medics from reaching them. Trapped between the sea and the fences erected by Egypt and Israel the Gazans were simply shot down like animals in a game reserve. Then the killers were hauled off so that Barack Obama’s inauguration would not be ruined by the spectacle of children still being killed.

Chomsky: Undermining Gaza

Sameer Dossani | January 16, 2009

Editor: Emily Schwartz Greco

Foreign Policy In Focus

Noam Chomsky is a noted linguist, author, and foreign policy expert. Sameer Dossani interviewed him about the conflict between Israel and Gaza.

DOSSANI: The Israeli government and many Israeli and U.S. officials claim that the current assault on Gaza is to put an end to the flow of Qassam rockets from Gaza into Israel. But many observers claim that if that were really the case, Israel would have made much more of an effort to renew the ceasefire agreement that expired in December, which had all but stopped the rocket fire. In your opinion, what are the real motivations behind the current Israeli action?

CHOMSKY: There's a theme that goes way back to the origins of Zionism. And it's a very rational theme: "Let's delay negotiations and diplomacy as long as possible, and meanwhile we'll 'build facts on the ground.'" So Israel will create the basis for what some eventual agreement will ratify, but the more they create, the more they construct, the better the agreement will be for their purposes. Those purposes are essentially to take over everything of value in the former Palestine and to undermine what's left of the indigenous population.

I think one of the reasons for popular support for this in the United States is that it resonates very well with American history. How did the United States get established? The themes are similar.

RAKON INDUSTRIES NZ HELPS KILL GAZAN BABIES

Today, at an Auckland protest against the invasion of Gaza and the contribution of the Rakon company to death and destruction around the globe, Christian peace activist Tyler Culpepper was arrested for an act of non-violent direct action.

Tyler climbed onto the roof of Rakon's manufacturing facility and revealed the true nature of the Rakon company, using red paint to adjust the building's signage to say 'Rakon Kills', an accurate and unfortunate reality. This action was taken during a protest of around 400 people opposing the ongoing israeli invasion of GAZA. In addition to Tylers action others threw water baloons of red paint at the front of the building. These paint bombs were to symbolise the blood shed of hundreds of palestineans by israel.

Components manufactured and sold by the Rakon company from right here in Aotearoa have undoubtedly helped guide the missiles that have killed and injured thousands of people in the Gaza Strip over the last three weeks and millions more in Iraq and Afghanistan over the course of the so-called War on Terror.

Tyler said, "We can't sit back and do nothing when there are people being slaughtered. Especially when companies in our own country are helping to facilitate that killing."

The following was written last night as Tyler was preparing for this action:

All the nations will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
All wars will stop, and military training will come to an end.
Micah 4:3

Wars today are no longer fought using simple weapons like swords and spears. Instead, complex weapons, capable of much greater damage are used. These weapons require complex components from all over the world, even from here in Aotearoa.

If we are to participate in the fulfilment of this ancient prophesy – the beating of swords into ploughshares - we must know where to find these modern swords and spears, including the components essential to their operation.

The Rakon company supplies crystal oscillators to weapons companies. These oscillators are used in guidance systems for guided missiles and munitions systems - weapons of mass destruction. Rakon's components have undoubtedly been used in the invasion and on-going occupation of Iraq, as well as in the current invasion of the Gaza Strip. The invasion of Gaza over the last three weeks has cost the lives of over 1100 men, women and children, and injured thousands more, while Rakon made record profits last year.

Tomorrow I will take a can of red paint to the rooftop of the Rakon manufacturing facility and attempt to modify the signs on the front of the building. It is my intention to reveal the fact that Rakon is helping to manufacture weapons of war, for those that have forgotten and those who never knew. Then the process of beating these swords into ploughshares can begin.

The red paint symbolises the blood that Rakon helps to shed by selling components to the weapons companies. It stands in contrast to the sterile white walls of the Rakon factory which give the false impression of purity, so far removed from the death and destruction Rakon facilitates

' Israel's' 'colonial tactics' decried

A majority of Gazans are refugees whose ancestors used to live in what is today Israel [GALLO/GETTY]

Azmi Bishara, an Arab-Israeli analyst and former member of the Israeli parliament, has lashed out at the Israeli media campaign being run alongside its war on Gaza that criminalises the victims and victimises the coloniser.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on Tuesday, Bishara said Israel's war on Gaza was disproportionate and punishes the Palestinian people for refusing to bow to Israel's fait-accompli in the strip.

"Usually people are pushed to collective punishment because they want to punish resistance movements or national liberation movements.

"That's usually what colonial powers did, and that's what Israel is doing.

Bishara said the majority of Gazans are refugees, whose ancestors used to live in what is now Israel.

"Everybody knows that 75 per cent of the people of Gaza are refugees. Everybody knows that Israel disengaged from Gaza militarily, but occupies it economically and politically and also it besieges Gaza militarily.

"Israel would say, "what would any normal country do if they were threatened by rocket fire? They would act".

"But Israel is not a normal country, it is an occupying country, a colonial country and the people of Gaza are under siege."

‘Punishing democracy’

Bishara said that Palestinians are being punished for choosing Hamas in the January 2006 democratic elections and accused Israeli officials for dramatising their lies.

"Shimon Peres, the Israeli president, should be asked, "What would you do if your house is besieged and you can't feed your child, can't go to school, and can't take them to the doctors and physicians when they are ill.

"I consider Hamas rockets a protest shout, they haven't hurt many, only the few. They are weapons of the poor, used to express their will.

"What brought the war was the siege. When colonial powers have historically gone to occupy countries, siege has always been a weapon. Siege is a military action at the beginning of war.

"When it did not work to break the will of the Palestinian people... Israel realised that the rockets were a response to the siege, and they went to the next phase which was direct military aggression, which is actually now directed against civilians to punish them for their democratic choice.

"What I think will happen is a ceasefire that will mean an end to the siege if the rockets stop. It will happen after the deaths of so many people."

Australia: Following Gaza from Afar

Though Gaza is a long way from Australia, there have been many reactions to the catastrophe unfolding there. Many Australians have been using their blogs to post links that help to provide both information and analysis of what’s happening that is not always covered in the mainstream media.

Planet IRF has been posting AlJazeeraEnglish videos. He re-titled ‘Sderot residents live on the edge 30 Dec 08′ as Sympathy for victims…

They are presented without comment. The Al Jazera summary on YouTube is:

Israel insists that as long as Hamas rockets keep falling on the southern part of the country, it must continue striking Gaza.

And as Hoda Abdel Hamid reports, residents in Sderot - which lies near the Gaza border - say they support those attacks, even if it means taking civilian lives.

US military aid underpins Gaza offensive - 31 Dec 08‘ is The constant flow of terror funds …

The Al Jazera summary:

Israel receives billions of dollars in military aid from the US each year, much of it spent on American weaponry which US law says must only be used in self-defence.

But experts say there is little chance of cuts in aid to Israel despite its military operation in Gaza.

Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.

Ana blogs at Whenua Fenua Enua Vanua, (Revolutionary Anti Colonialism & Anti Capitalism in the Pacific). As well as linking to Al Jazeera, she has included a lengthy piece from Co-founder of The Electronic Intifada, Ali Abunimah. He took up the growing pessimism that anything can be done to improve the situation:

On top of the intense anger and sadness so many people feel at Israel's renewed mass killings in Gaza is a sense of frustration that there seem to be so few ways to channel it into a political response that can change the course of events, end the suffering, and bring justice.

But there are ways, and this is a moment to focus on them. Already I have received notices of demonstrations and solidarity actions being planned in cities all over the world. That is important. But what will happen after the demonstrations disperse and the anger dies down? Will we continue to let Palestinians in Gaza die in silence?

Palestinians everywhere are asking for solidarity, real solidarity, in the form of sustained, determined political action. The Gaza-based One Democratic State Group reaffirmed this today as it “called upon all civil society organizations and freedom loving people to act immediately in any possible way to put pressure on their governments to end diplomatic ties with Apartheid Israel and institute sanctions against it.”

The global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement for Palestine (http://www.bdsmovement.net/) provides the framework for this. Now is the time to channel our raw emotions into a long-term commitment to make sure we do not wake up to “another Gaza” ever again.

Free Palestine

Antony Loewenstein, well known blogger and author of My Israel Question and The Blogging Revolution. His mix of anti-zionism and jewish background have made him a controversial voice in Australia. He frequently posts items from a wide range of sources such as this one from Ynet News, the online Israeli news service:

Dozens of Israelis received text messages from Hamas Thursday morning, stammeringly warning them that the offensive in Gaza will only bring about massive rocket fire on Israel.

The message read: “Rockets on all cities, shelters not protect, Qassam rocket, Hamas.” A source in Hamas military wing confirmed the new tactic, adding that Hamas wants to warn the Israeli public against a future escalation in Gaza. Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) Spokesman Abu Abir said that the Palestinian organizations have a few surprises in store for the Israelis, and not just military-wise.

From rockets to texting

The latest post points to a new source of citizen journalism in Israel:

Israeli human rights group have launched a blog to document the abuses during the current violence in Gaza.

Bypassing the old timers

This group’s purpose:

In light of the fighting in Gaza and in Southern Israel, Israeli human rights groups are sending out ongoing updates about the impact on civilians. Our aim is to inform the Israeli public of events that are not being covered by the media. Each group is posting the information at its disposal, which is necessarily limited and cannot be taken as a comprehensive picture of the human rights violations currently taking place. Since the fieldworkers cannot access most locations at present, much of the information is being conveyed over the phone. The data has been verified to our best ability under the circumstances.

Tau - where’re all your bros now?

http://www.3news.co.nz/tabid/867/Default.aspx

13-Jan 14:30

Tau Henare is a crack up. Sitting pretty in the blue party, our Nga Puhi boy says he has little time for the idea of the Maori flag flying from the bridge this Waitangi Day. He reckons Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples is pushing the idea as a publicity stunt.

I found a speech of Henare's online when he was courting votes for Mauri Pacific. He said:

"The Government doesn't need to help Pakeha culture. It practically is Pakeha culture. But it does need to ensure the survival of Maori as a vibrant, modern culture here in its homeland. Naturally, the Treaty also tells us how to do this, through the protection of rangatiratanga."

The protection of Rangatiratanga? Flying two flags to represent the two peoples who signed the founding document of this land is surely protecting the rangatiratanga of Maori, isn't it?

Oh how time changes opinions, particularly when you're a politician. Tau Henare is now in Government , the one to which he once referred to as "practically pakeha". He's kept company by his tuahine, Georgina Te Heuheu who says she's not sure the flag actually represents Maori.

Has she forgotten the tens of thousands that marched behind and under it in the 2004 Hikoi to Parliament. I was there with my children, my Pakeha mum and the Tino flag flying above our heads, no one was complaining that day. In fact Georgina was one of those MPs welcoming and kissing iwi as they arrived holding their flags.

If it isn't the original or traditional flag it certainly is the one most New Zealanders identify with as being Maori. So with almost every other country's flag having had their moment flying above our Harbour Bridge, will Tangata Whenua get their chance? It'll be a first as will it be the new Prime Minister's first brown challenge when he arrives back from Hawaii this week.

I'll leave you with more from Henare's 1998 speech.

"It is a basic right of every culture to survive and flourish in its homeland. It is necessary to secure that right and put it beyond question, otherwise people will fight for it, as they are doing all round the world at this very moment. In New Zealand that right is enshrined in the concept of bi-culturalism which is inseparable from the Treaty. If bi-culturalism goes, so will the Treaty".

Kia ora bro , oh sorry , I mean Tau! What a lovely sentiment to remind us of Waitangi Day..

Nga mihi o te wa ki a tatou katoa hei tenei rangi whakahirahira e tuu mai nei.

Gaza: the logic of colonial power

Gaza: the logic of colonial power

As so often, the term 'terrorism' has proved a rhetorical smokescreen under cover of which the strong crush the weak

I have spent most of the Bush administration's tenure reporting from Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Somalia and other conflicts. I have been published by most major publications. I have been interviewed by most major networks and I have even testified before the senate foreign relations committee. The Bush administration began its tenure with Palestinians being massacred and it ends with Israel committing one of its largest massacres yet in a 60-year history of occupying Palestinian land. Bush's final visit to the country he chose to occupy ended with an educated secular Shiite Iraqi throwing his shoes at him, expressing the feelings of the entire Arab world save its dictators who have imprudently attached themselves to a hated American regime.

Once again, the Israelis bomb the starving and imprisoned population of Gaza. The world watches the plight of 1.5 million Gazans live on TV and online; the western media largely justify the Israeli action. Even some Arab outlets try to equate the Palestinian resistance with the might of the Israeli military machine. And none of this is a surprise. The Israelis just concluded a round-the-world public relations campaign to gather support for their assault, even gaining the collaboration of Arab states like Egypt.

The international community is directly guilty for this latest massacre. Will it remain immune from the wrath of a desperate people? So far, there have been large demonstrations in Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Iraq. The people of the Arab world will not forget. The Palestinians will not forget. "All that you have done to our people is registered in our notebooks," as the poet Mahmoud Darwish said.

I have often been asked by policy analysts, policy-makers and those stuck with implementing those policies for my advice on what I think America should do to promote peace or win hearts and minds in the Muslim world. It too often feels futile, because such a revolution in American policy would be required that only a true revolution in the American government could bring about the needed changes. An American journal once asked me to contribute an essay to a discussion on whether terrorism or attacks against civilians could ever be justified. My answer was that an American journal should not be asking whether attacks on civilians can ever be justified. This is a question for the weak, for the Native Americans in the past, for the Jews in Nazi Germany, for the Palestinians today, to ask themselves.

Terrorism is a normative term and not a descriptive concept. An empty word that means everything and nothing, it is used to describe what the Other does, not what we do. The powerful – whether Israel, America, Russia or China – will always describe their victims' struggle as terrorism, but the destruction of Chechnya, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, the slow slaughter of the remaining Palestinians, the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan – with the tens of thousands of civilians it has killed … these will never earn the title of terrorism, though civilians were the target and terrorising them was the purpose.

Counterinsurgency, now popular again among in the Pentagon, is another way of saying the suppression of national liberation struggles. Terror and intimidation are as essential to it as is winning hearts and minds.

Normative rules are determined by power relations. Those with power determine what is legal and illegal. They besiege the weak in legal prohibitions to prevent the weak from resisting. For the weak to resist is illegal by definition. Concepts like terrorism are invented and used normatively as if a neutral court had produced them, instead of the oppressors. The danger in this excessive use of legality actually undermines legality, diminishing the credibility of international institutions such as the United Nations. It becomes apparent that the powerful, those who make the rules, insist on legality merely to preserve the power relations that serve them or to maintain their occupation and colonialism.

Attacking civilians is the last, most desperate and basic method of resistance when confronting overwhelming odds and imminent eradication. The Palestinians do not attack Israeli civilians with the expectation that they will destroy Israel. The land of Palestine is being stolen day after day; the Palestinian people is being eradicated day after day. As a result, they respond in whatever way they can to apply pressure on Israel. Colonial powers use civilians strategically, settling them to claim land and dispossess the native population, be they Indians in North America or Palestinians in what is now Israel and the Occupied Territories. When the native population sees that there is an irreversible dynamic that is taking away their land and identity with the support of an overwhelming power, then they are forced to resort to whatever methods of resistance they can.

Not long ago, 19-year-old Qassem al-Mughrabi, a Palestinian man from Jerusalem drove his car into a group of soldiers at an intersection. "The terrorist", as the Israeli newspaper Haaretz called him, was shot and killed. In two separate incidents last July, Palestinians from Jerusalem also used vehicles to attack Israelis. The attackers were not part of an organisation. Although those Palestinian men were also killed, senior Israeli officials called for their homes to be demolished. In a separate incident, Haaretz reported that a Palestinian woman blinded an Israeli soldier in one eye when she threw acid n his face. "The terrorist was arrested by security forces," the paper said. An occupied citizen attacks an occupying soldier, and she is the terrorist?

In September, Bush spoke at the United Nations. No cause could justify the deliberate taking of human life, he said. Yet the US has killed thousands of civilians in airstrikes on populated areas. When you drop bombs on populated areas knowing there will be some "collateral" civilian damage, but accepting it as worth it, then it is deliberate. When you impose sanctions, as the US did on Saddam era Iraq, that kill hundreds of thousands, and then say their deaths were worth it, as secretary of state Albright did, then you are deliberately killing people for a political goal. When you seek to "shock and awe", as president Bush did, when he bombed Iraq, you are engaging in terrorism.

Just as the traditional American cowboy film presented white Americans under siege, with Indians as the aggressors, which was the opposite of reality, so, too, have Palestinians become the aggressors and not the victims. Beginning in 1948, 750,000 Palestinians were deliberately cleansed and expelled from their homes, and hundreds of their villages were destroyed, and their land was settled by colonists, who went on to deny their very existence and wage a 60-year war against the remaining natives and the national liberation movements the Palestinians established around the world. Every day, more of Palestine is stolen, more Palestinians are killed. To call oneself an Israeli Zionist is to engage in the dispossession of entire people. It is not that, qua Palestinians, they have the right to use any means necessary, it is because they are weak. The weak have much less power than the strong, and can do much less damage. The Palestinians would not have ever bombed cafes or used home-made missiles if they had tanks and airplanes. It is only in the current context that their actions are justified, and there are obvious limits.

It is impossible to make a universal ethical claim or establish a Kantian principle justifying any act to resist colonialism or domination by overwhelming power. And there are other questions I have trouble answering. Can an Iraqi be justified in attacking the United States? After all, his country was attacked without provocation, and destroyed, with millions of refugees created, hundreds of thousands of dead. And this, after 12 years of bombings and sanctions, which killed many and destroyed the lives of many others.

I could argue that all Americans are benefiting from their country's exploits without having to pay the price, and that, in today's world, the imperial machine is not merely the military but a military-civilian network. And I could also say that Americans elected the Bush administration twice and elected representatives who did nothing to stop the war, and the American people themselves did nothing. From the perspective of an American, or an Israeli, or other powerful aggressors, if you are strong, everything you do is justifiable, and nothing the weak do is legitimate. It's merely a question of what side you choose: the side of the strong or the side of the weak.

Israel and its allies in the west and in Arab regimes such as Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia have managed to corrupt the PLO leadership, to suborn them with the promise of power at the expense of liberty for their people, creating a first – a liberation movement that collaborated with the occupier. Israeli elections are coming up and, as usual, these elections are accompanied by war to bolster the candidates. You cannot be prime minister of Israel without enough Arab blood on your hands. An Israeli general has threatened to set Gaza back decades, just as they threatened to set Lebanon back decades in 2006. As if strangling Gaza and denying its people fuel, power or food had not set it back decades already.

The democratically elected Hamas government was targeted for destruction from the day it won the elections in 2006. The world told the Palestinians that they cannot have democracy, as if the goal was to radicalise them further and as if that would not have a consequence. Israel claims it is targeting Hamas's military forces. This is not true. It is targeting Palestinian police forces and killing them, including some such as the chief of police, Tawfiq Jaber, who was actually a former Fatah official who stayed on in his post after Hamas took control of Gaza. What will happen to a society with no security forces? What do the Israelis expect to happen when forces more radical than Hamas gain power?

A Zionist Israel is not a viable long-term project and Israeli settlements, land expropriation and separation barriers have long since made a two state solution impossible. There can be only one state in historic Palestine. In coming decades, Israelis will be confronted with two options. Will they peacefully transition towards an equal society, where Palestinians are given the same rights, à la post-apartheid South Africa? Or will they continue to view democracy as a threat? If so, one of the peoples will be forced to leave. Colonialism has only worked when most of the natives have been exterminated. But often, as in occupied Algeria, it is the settlers who flee. Eventually, the Palestinians will not be willing to compromise and seek one state for both people. Does the world want to further radicalise them?

Do not be deceived: the persistence of the Palestine problem is the main motive for every anti-American militant in the Arab world and beyond. But now the Bush administration has added Iraq and Afghanistan as additional grievances. America has lost its influence on the Arab masses, even if it can still apply pressure on Arab regimes. But reformists and elites in the Arab world want nothing to do with America.

A failed American administration departs, the promise of a Palestinian state a lie, as more Palestinians are murdered. A new president comes to power, but the people of the Middle East have too much bitter experience of US administrations to have any hope for change. President-elect Obama, Vice President-elect Biden and incoming secretary of state Hillary Clinton have not demonstrated that their view of the Middle East is at all different from previous administrations. As the world prepares to celebrate a new year, how long before it is once again made to feel the pain of those whose oppression it either ignores or supports?

THE RULE OF WHAT LAW? CANADA’S OBSCENE PART IN GAZA ATROCITIES – WEAPONS NEED TO BE BURIED

MNN. Jan 7, 2008. How many Palestinian infants, toddlers, children and schools have been bombed by the criminals in charge of Israeli forces in the last few days? What law are they following? An eye for an eye! A tooth for a tooth! This is primitive barbarity. The Israelis claim if they kill enough Palestinians, Hamas will stop sending in rockets. Conveniently overlooked is the fact that Israelis have built a wall around Gaza to control every Palestinian and everything that comes in and out of the ghetto to deliberately force the people into desperation. Also forgotten is that parts of the new smart bomb, GBU 39, designed for urban warfare, is made in Canadian facilities with the help of government tax breaks and Canada Pension Plan investments. This is obscene!

Gaza is occupied Palestinian territory. The Israelis and Americans toppled the democratically elected Hamas government because it couldn’t control them. The war is being waged on civilians who have no arms nor anywhere to hide. How noble is it for heavily armed Israelis to shoot fish in a rain barrel? The Palestinians have a right to live. They can only lob their homemade rockets into Israel. The Israelis attack them with illegal weapons. All weapons are illegal. Manufacturers should be prosecuted. The weapons collected and buried.

The United Nations is looking more like a bogus organization that serves the interests of a handful of war mongers who are trying to profit by setting up a New World Order. This is where the bankers and war mongers are the bosses and we are supposed to be their slaves. We fear the UN is setting up an “international department of Indian affairs” to control all indigenous peoples and resources worldwide.

Obviously the U.S. cannot broker the peace agreement when they are supporting Israel’s attack and supplying the weapons. We Indigenous went through the same plot. To stop the invading Europeans from killing us all off, we were forced to give up our possessions and territories. We resisted. 115 million of our people died in the biggest holocaust in all humanity. The survivors had to live in concentration camps called “reserves”. Today the Israelis and their backers are carrying out the same sequence of events in the Middle East. The UN, US, Canada and Europe are part of this.

The majority of the people in the world are appalled by Israel’s atrocities. They have killed over 500, mostly civilians. Over 2000 have been cruelly injured by illegal weapons made from depleted uranium and phosphorous. Palestinians have reached out to their Arab brothers and sisters whose governments are controlled by the West. Iran could be nuked by the U.S. if they helped their Palestinian family. We know how hard it is to unify. The colonists constantly work at dividing us. We too were starved and abused so they could grab our territories and wreak environmental havoc.

Just follow the “blood money”. Canada helps craft and support this cynical conspiracy. 10% of income tax goes to the military. The Canada Pension Plan contributions are invested in Carlyle Group and such weapons makers as NG [Northrop Grundman], L3Com, BAESystems, Bombardier, Raytheon, DRS Technologies, Boeing and many more. How many people get their pay check directly or indirectly from the military industry?

Mineral resources to make these deadly bombs and destroy the world are being stolen from our territories that have been left polluted in the process. We constantly object and are threatened and subjected to impoverishment. Our social programs, health care, education and infra structure are cut back or stopped altogether to shut us up. For example, the dissidents of the Algonquins of Barriere Lake Quebec have moved out of their communities and into the bush. They are unwanted because they are trying to stop deforestation, demineralization and water diversion of their territory. The guys trying to control our territories are finding the biggest obstacles are the sovereign legal resistance of the Indigenous people. A huge intelligence network has been set up to undermine and control our people and put out misinformation to us and about us to the public.

Survival is natural. To murder babies, women, men and elders is not natural. The Palestinians are struggling to survive. Those who follow this natural instinct are labeled “terrorist”. In fact we are defenders of our people, land, nation, very existence and Mother Earth. Every living creature has a right to carry out the natural instinct for self-preservation. Creation put that in us.

The war mongers tell us we have no right to self preservation. The Palestinians are being forced to live under the apartheid “Indian Act” system of Gaza which is being rammed down their throats. The same apartheid system was imposed on us and continues here. They pulled out papers on us. What are these papers? Why does their paper have more authority than human rights and our lives? Is it because they have a big gun and can constantly threaten us? This is thuggery!

The idea that peace can be bought at the end of a gun has been proven false time after time. Fanaticism has never solved anything. Truly impartial people must be found to form a body that can broker a true peace. Peace will come if people learn how to stop being greedy. There has to be a real willingness to assert equality and a voice for everybody. There will never be peace of mind on the terms of the war mongers and their cohorts that want control over us, our land, culture and resources.

According to the Kaianereh:kowa, the Great law of Peace, the grievances felt by people on both sides has to be acknowledged. We, the Rotinoshonni:onwe [Iroquois] have a ceremony called the “small condolence” which we perform before any negotiations. It is all symbolic. The eyes are wiped with the softest skin of the deer so that we may see the issue clearly; the ear is cleared with an eagle feather so that we may listen and hear what is being said; and a glass of clear water is drunk to clear our throats so that only those words that have no jagged edges will come forth.

Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that these few war mongers will look for methodologies that can bring true peace. They are making too much money. If we choose we can organize an economy so that people can be rich without obscene torture, death and famine. First the arms have to be buried.

True peace requires work. These war mongers have to be dealt with. The people have to stop listening to their propaganda. These greedy war mongers don’t have borders and no loyalty to anybody but their bank accounts and their lust for the power of life and death over us. This 3% of the population are multi national corporations, their governments, their military and their agents. They own the banks and try to control everything. They fix the economy to hold us hostage.

The Palestinians will not die quietly in the Gaza ghetto from starvation, thirst, bombs or anonymity.

At just 5.9 feet long the bomb increases number of weapons an aircraft can carry, therefore raising the amount of people it can kill in one sortie. Complementing the weapon is a smart miniature munitions carriage system. The munition, with a smart fuze, has been extensively tested against multi-layered targets by Wright Laboratory under the Hard Target Ordnance Program and Miniature Munitions Technology Program. The goal is genocide to wipe out people and make their territory unlivable.

Yaakov Katz wrote an article in the Jerusalem Post on December 29th 2008 that the Israeli Air Force is using new U.S. supplied smart bombs. [http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?] “a new bunker-buster missile made by [and 1000 bought from] the U.S. to strike Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The GBU-39 missile is a small-diameter bomb for low-cost, high-precision and low collateral damage. [They] … arrived in December 2008. They penetrate underground Kassam launchers during the heavy aerial bombardment of Hamas infrastructure… It was used in Sunday's bombing of tunnels in Rafah [where civilians are taking shelter]. This 113-kg. bomb can penetrate like a normal 900-kg. bomb, although it has only 22.7 kg. of explosives. It is 1.75 meters long. … It can penetrate at least 90 cm. of steel-reinforced concrete… used in any weather and has a standoff range of more than 110 km. due to pop-out wings”.

“Military Intelligence's Psychological Warfare Department broke into radio broadcasts in Gaza and warned Palestinian civilians not to cooperate with Hamas terrorist activity”. Palestinians received recorded messages on their cell and land phones from the IDF ordering them to immediately leave their homes that IDF purported were next to Hamas infrastructure or being used by the “terrorist” organization. Defense officials said Israel will not hesitate to target civilian homes who they feel might protect Hamas terrorists. Could this be the reason behind the killing of infants, children and civilians? International Community's Silence is Aiding Genocide of Tamils In Sri Lanka

Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations
Media Release 06.01.2009

International Community's Silence is Aiding Genocide of Tamils In Sri Lanka

Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations (AFTA), the peak body Representing the Tamil Australians of Sri Lankan descent, is shocked and dismayed by the absolute silence maintained by the International Community, about the Genocidal military onslaught carried out by the Sri Lankan security forces against the Tamil people living in the Wanni region, in the north of the country.

AFTA has been continuously expressing its concerns about the unilateral decision taken in early 2008 by the Sri Lankan government to abrogate theceasefire agreement it signed in 2002 with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the liberation movement fighting to re-establish the lost sovereignty of the Tamil People in Sri Lanka. AFTA also has been highlighting the Genocidal intent of the Sri Lankan administration to the International Community from the time the present Rajapaksa regime began its military operations to occupy the Tamil Homeland.

After occupying by force, first the Jaffna Peninsula and later the eastern parts of the Tamil Homeland inflicting heavy Tamil civilian casualties, property damage and creating hundreds of thousands of Internally Displaced People (IDPs), the Sri Lankan security forces began their occupation of the northern parts of the Tamil Homeland in late 2007. Because of the indiscriminate artillery and multi barrel shelling and aerial bombardment, more than 300,000 people were forced to flee the advancing army of occupation and become IDPs in their own homeland while thousands fled across the sea to nearby India.

Some of the IDPs have been on the move for nearly a year now and have been living without permanent shelters, exposed to the heavy monsoon rains. For the past 5 months, the Sri Lankan Security forces have been locked up in fierce battle with the LTTE forces to occupy the LTTE's administrative nerve centre, the town of Kilinochchi, where diplomats have been meeting the leadership of the LTTE during the peace negotiations. After causing substantial damage to the infrastructureand after the civilians and LTTE forces had vacated the town, the SriLankan security forces have now occupied a ghost town. In the month of December alone, 9 civilians (including one child) were killed and 71 civilians (including 10 children) were injured due to aerial bombing (mainly with Russian made cluster bombs) and artillery shelling.

At the moment the whole population of the Wanni region affected by the current battles are confined to adjoining Mullaitheevu district and the security forces are claiming to be moving swiftly to occupy that district too. Aerial bombing is continuing and the Sri Lankan State has also imposed stringent economic, food and medical embargos on the war affected areas in the Wanni region where around500,000 Tamils live now.

While the Sri Lankan government is keen on occupying the Tamil Homeland, it has not even suggested a political solution to satisfy the longstanding aspirations of the Tamils. The current Rajapaksa administration has been hoodwinking the International Community citing that an All Party Committee convened by the President would come up with a political solution. Tamil people have no faith in such committees which do not have any representation from the Tamil National Alliance or the LTTE.

Latest reports suggest that this committee no longer meets. AFTA, while appreciating the efforts of the International Community to bring about a ceasefire between the Israeli security forces and the Hamas fighters of the Gaza strip, including the attempt to pass a resolution at the UN Security Council, is disappointed and dismayed by the continued silence observed for months now by the International community regarding what is happening in the Tamil Homeland of SriLanka.

AFTA is particularly concerned by the silence maintained by the so called Co-Chairs to the Sri Lankan peace process, namely the US, EU, Norway and Japan. AFTA is also shocked by the intransigent attitude shown by the Indian government even after the southern Tamil State of Tamil Nadu requested the Central government to enforce a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. AFTA is also concerned by the military assistance provided by some of these countries to the Sri Lankan security forces.

AFTA would like to point out that the Sri Lankan government which barredjournalists and Non Governmental Organisations, including UN agencies from entering Wanni all this time to hide the human tragedy happening there from the International Community, citing security reasons, has taken journalists to Kilinochchi to announce to the world about their recent successful occupation of the place.

AFTA does not believe that this Rajapaksa administration, under these circumstances will be in a position to offer a reasonable political solution to satisfy the Tamil people's aspirations. Therefore AFTA appeals to the International Community including the Co-chair countries, Australia and India to bring about a ceasefire immediately in Sri Lanka to prevent the human catastrophe waiting to happen in Wanni and to restore normalcy and persuade the Sri Lankan government to enter into peace negotiations with the LTTE to find a political solution that recognises the right to self-determination of the Tamil people.

Aboriginal News Service (IANS) Statement on the Gaza Crisis in Occupied Palestine

“Total war is no longer war waged by all members of one national community against all those of another. It is total... because it may well involve the whole world.”

Press Release: Aboriginal News Service (IANS) Statement on the Gaza Crisis in Occupied

As Indigenous people fully conscious of our own respective colonial circumstances and those of other similarly repressed and oppressed peoples, we, the undersigned, maintain that the latest saturation bombing and subsequent ground invasion of a Palestinian refugee concentration camp is not just and that the continued IDF occupation extends this grave injustice. The defenceless people of The Gaza, a refugee district of Occupied Palestine, have been mercilessly attacked by the State of Israel under the auspices of national “self-defence.” This is clearly a false pretence, as it is now known that the Israeli intelligence and military services secretly planned this attack more than six months ago as part of “Operation Cast Lead”,[1] a covert programme of anti-Palestinian propaganda, premeditated sabotage of the Hamas government during the U.S.-sponsored June 2007 truce agreement and extensive ethnic terrorism directed against the refugee Arab Palestinian population of The Gaza. It is also now common knowledge that the Israeli Defence Forces have begun using cluster bombs, denatured uranium and the horrible chemical weapon, white phosphorus, a compound that burns human beings on contact.[2]

With this, Palestinian reporters are being targeted and international reporters barred at the Gaza border by the IDF, humanitarian aid is prevented from reaching the injured and dying and Norwegian medics have told Iran’s Press TV some of the victims wounded since the IDF began its bombardment of The Gaza on December 27 carry traces of depleted uranium within their bodies.[3]

These actions constitute nothing less than war crimes and crimes against humanity. Since The Nakba of 1948, the Palestinian people have been subjected to enforced dislocation, ethnic discrimination, randomised racist settler violence and indiscriminate aggression by the Israeli Defence Forces, conditions intended to bring upon them emotional suffering and a reduction in their number. Under established international law, these actions and the recent bombing and invasion of The Gaza by the part of the State of Israel undoubtedly amount to the moral and legal crime of genocide. Relevant transgressions of the established charter of the United Nations include and in particular the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (General Assembly resolution 260 A (III), 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (General Assembly Resolution 217 A (III), 1948), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (General Assembly Resolution 2200 (XXI), 1966), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (General Assembly Resolution 2200 (XXI), 1966) and the rights to liberation of international Indigenous-internal colonies, (General Assembly Resolution 1541(XV), 1966).

In addition, in recognition of the Nuremberg Principles established in 1944, the State of Israel, (as well as the United States) is also responsible for crimes against humanity, war crimes and the ongoing genocide of indigenous Arab Palestinians since 1948. The injustice of these goals has been compounded by the vicious execution of the Israeli Defence Forces war plan of widespread destruction and terror characterized by an appalling disregard for human life and property. As concerned members of the Fourth World and as Indigenist news journalists, we believe it is the moral responsibility of the United Nations, as the representative body of the world community, actively and without delay move to end this war. The violence unleashed by the Israeli invasion of The Gaza has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Arab Palestinians and has left thousands of other civilians critically wounded.

We the undersigned implore the world community to act according to the charter of the United Nations and without delay end this genocide against the Palestinian people! We demand that President-Elect Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress officially condemn the actions of the State of Israel and immediately establish a suspension of military and financial aid to the Israeli government to limit their ability to expand this atrocity of human rights against the Palestinian people any further.

Zionism and the Art of Genocide Denial

By
The Angryindian

"We cannot allow the Arabs to block so valuable a piece of historic reconstruction ..... And therefore we must generally persuade them to 'trek.' After all, they have all Arabia with its million square miles .... There is no particular reason for the Arabs to cling to these few kilometers. 'To fold their tents and silently steal away' is their proverbial habit: let them exemplify it now."
Israel Zangwill, Expulsion Of The Palestinians

"The antisemites will become our most loyal friends, the antisemite nations will become our allies."
Theodor Herzl, One Palestine Complete

Now that the much anticipated Israeli ground “war” has begun in earnest, there has been an escalating swell of semantic ju-jutsu concerning the rightness of the Zionist putsch to utterly take apart the Palestinian government-in-exile and by extension, what remains of Indigenous Arab resistance to Ashkenazim White Power.

The mainstream U.S. and British press has narrowly portrayed this crisis as an issue of Jewish self-defence instead of the Arab genocide this really is. There are the numerous obligatory calls by world leaders for a halt to the violence, but they are unanimously committed to admonishing Hamas while deliberately skipping over the facts surrounding the activity which led to the blitzkrieg. The fact that deadly Israeli Defence Forces actions against “suspected” Hamas, Hezbollah and random civilian activists clearly violated this truce on numerous occasions is rarely if ever examined.

While news agencies in the United States report this calamity as a just and humane military action on the part of a besieged Jewish homeland defending themselves against an overwhelming and unstoppable force, Israel’s own press is reporting this as an endeavour long in the planning. Perhaps the most respected newspaper in Israel, Haaretz soberly reported, “Long-term planning, meticulous intelligence-gathering, secret discussions, visual deception tactics and disinformation preceded operation "Cast Lead" which the Israel Air Force launched yesterday in Gaza to take out Hamas targets in the Strip.”[1]

The article goes further:

“Sources in the defense establishment said Defense Minister Ehud Barak instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for the operation over six months ago, even as Israel was beginning to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. According to the sources, Barak maintained that although the lull would allow Hamas to prepare for a showdown with Israel, the Israeli army needed time to prepare, as well.”

Preparations included a widespread intelligence campaign to identify Hamas' security networks and other activist installations and offices present within the confines of The Gaza, the arrival of U.S. military supplies support and the premeditated strangling of vital resources essential to the refugee population including the complete blockage of humanitarian aid. Israel’s government wilfully planned to starve-out the people of The Gaza, to squeeze the very life out of them until they saw signs of people panting on all fours in the streets, too weak and despondent to fight any further. Israel cowardly plotted to punish the Palestinian people as a whole, thereby making any armed or moral resistance to their genocidal plans effectively insignificant if not nearly impossible.

This should be front-page news in the United States but it isn’t. However, the UK, Japan[2] and other news agencies around the world did take notice, providing evidence of the deception programme mentioned above. In a report published on the 19th of June 2008 by the BBC, the British news agency reported comments by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert saying that the truce was “fragile and could be short-lived.” Reuters later reported on Jan. 4th that Israeli President Shimon Peres flatly rejected the likelihood of a physical occupation of The Gaza stating, "We don't intend neither to occupy Gaza nor to crush Hamas, but to crush terror. And Hamas needs a real and serious lesson. They are now getting it."

In effect, Israel consciously lied to the Palestinians and the entire world when it said it would abide by the ceasefire. It cunningly used the agreed break in the fighting to prepare itself for a Final Solution programme designed to destroy what is left of the Palestinian resistance Zionist genocide.

A substantial number of people around the world not amused nor swayed by the Zionist lobby in Washington D.C. have long protested Israel’s programme of anti-Arab genocide. They understand what a genocide is, they comprehend the gist of a virulently racist practice designed to eliminate an entire race of people. They are not moved by the rhetorical newspeak of Israel’s partisan “right to exist” or the touted uniquely “intimate” relationship between the United States and the State of Israel. Numerous demonstrations have occurred in conjunction with the siege, so it is clear that not everyone is comfortable with a Jewish-sponsored genocide in the new century.

In response, a number of personalities - particularly African-American celebrities led by Barack Obama and other minority stooges - have been trotted out before the cameras of the mainstream media to pledge their undying loyalty to the State of Israel and the right of Israel to employ engulfing deadly force against Islamic extremists. They are joined by the radical Protestant Imams on cable television calling for the United States to “enter the situation and destroy Hamas for Jesus” and news editorials summing up the ethnocide as "…a testament to the State of Israel's humanity," insisting that the carnage is really "the responsibility of Hamas." Israel needs and deserves all our support they argue and anyone deemed critical to this course of action, inclusive of this writer, have no right to challenge the state of Israel's xenophobic gratification.

This is extremely important we are told, especially during "difficult times such as these" for the Jewish race. The indigenous Palestinian people and their uncertainties are straightforwardly not regarded or treated as if they are of any real importance. What is of importance according to this view is the pathetic victim narrative of the persecuted Jew, apparently the sole victim of the Catholic-driven ethnocides of Europe. We are repetitively reminded of what the German Nazis did to their population and we shall never forget. But we are rarely reminded of how many other ethnic and political minorities were burned alongside them.

We are never reminded of how many Arabs are killed by Israelis armed with weapons stamped “American-made” and we will never know how many newborns and their mothers have expired at the checkpoints because a teenaged IDF conscript from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn would not allow her to pass and reach medical assistance. We are not told about how their homes are bulldozed at a moments notice, or how they are beaten or shot by Zionist-settlers for harvesting their olives or for trying to collect water for their children to drink. These stories are absent from the debate surrounding occupied Palestine and remain missing from the public discourse at our own peril. There will be a price to pay for colonialist revisionism and the lack of moral courage evident in the coverage of this conflict. And the morgues of the world will not be able to maintain the workload.

Simple political and moral consistency with international law demands that there be an honest evaluation of a situation wherein an entire group of people, in this case homeless Arab refugees who were forcibly displaced by the British in favour of other refugees who used terrorism against the United Kingdom and the United States to gain national and territorial independence.

The legal if not moral questions of this issue are for all accounts null and void. Under international law and the United Nations charter, the State of Israel is in principle a belligerent rogue state that by rights should be dissolved. It is a government founded on racial atrocities such as the bombing of the King David Hotel[3] and the Deir Yassin massacre of 1948.[4] They have since graduated from the racial brutality of the Nakba to the unremitting saturation bombing of The Gaza, kicking off 2009 with a new Israeli-Arab Palestinian race war, starting off the year pursuing a policy of Arab Palestinian ethnic removal with full support from the nations of the world. Including their Arab brothers hamstrung by fear of American military or economic retaliation.

Now that we know that the Israeli government planned this ruse long in advance, what next? Will the outgoing Bush administration or the incoming Obama administration call Israel on this deception? "Operation Cast Lead" was commenced two days day after Christmas and it was paired with a vigilant propaganda crusade designed to minimize political fall-out. The Israeli government and its apologists maintain that the Hamas government and its armed resistance is the real target, but it is a calculated plot aimed to demoralise and generate misery to the Palestinian refugees. This is a crime against humanity. If this siege is to be labelled a “war,” then call what is happening and has been allowed to happen since 1948 has been a war crime, a series of war crimes. In fact, we can just go back to June of last year when the truce officially started and plan Operation Cast Lead began.

What we are being told is a necessary and humane response to Palestinian terror has been uncovered as a government-planned programme of Arab ethnocide with the goal of a complete and total expulsion of Palestinians from all claimed Israeli lands by any means necessary. And legitimate Palestinian indignation at being systematically despoiled will continue to be reinterpreted as the real barrier to the sort of communication essential to finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian “conflict. Europocentrism uber alles.

So, let’s communicate. Let’s discuss how the leadership of a government can plan the destruction of an entire population and not be perceived and acknowledged by the world as monsters. As of right now in the midst of this incredible mishegoss, the silence of the clearly impotent United Nations, the deficiency of integrity shown by the adulterous Arab League and the unspoken racism of the morally-ambiguous American Jew is as deafening as it is illuminating. In the wake of the clobbering of Afghanistan and the rape of Iraq, it is also a sign of things to come. When genocides can occur and the weight of the world sides with the perpetrators, the clock is ticking, for all of us.
