The Young Historians Institute

The Young Historians Institute is a rigorous week-long program hosted by the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) for rising high school students in grades 10 to 12. Join us as explore and practice the historical thinking skills that define the life and work of professional historians.

Date: Monday, June 24, 2019 to Friday, June 28, 2019
Time: 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM (M-F)
Cost: $200 per student

National History Day at NMAAHC: National Contest Week Programming

Date: Sunday, June 9, 2019 to Wednesday, June 12, 2019
Time: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Su - W)
Location: NMAAHC Welcome Desk (Heritage Hall)

Join us as we celebrate the achievements of students who are participating in the 2019 National Contest Week. During this week we will hold special programming to commemorate the 2018 - 2019 contest year and to help students begin to prepare for the 2019 - 2020 contest year. Participating National History Day students who visit the museum and complete a special activity will receive a limited edition 2019 NMAAHC button for their NHD button collections.

National History Day at NMAAHC: Student Documentary Showcase

The NMAAHC is proud to feature student documentaries created for the National History Day (NHD) competition that embody the mission and stories reflected in the museum. Please join us as we explore and understand history from the lens of the next generation of historians. The showcase is open and free to the public. Please see our page on visiting the museum during Peak Season (March - August).
