    VAWG organisations now need to do work in building evidence due to the cuts in legal aid. Finding good legal aid immigration solicitor increasingly difficult, some will take on if women's orgs do the evidence building

    Women's organisations have no duty to report anyone who is undocumented, our duty is to support and safeguard

    If women have children social services have a duty to them under Section 17 of the Children Act. If SS offer to take children into care note that this is more expensive than keeping them together. Placing children with perpetrators then they are failing to safeguard

    Really important to work with women to build evidence to support her claim - any protection orders, police reports, medical evidence. SBS have body maps where they note injuries and take dated photographs to submit as evidence

    If you are level 1 you can apply for the DDVC from the Home Office. A visa concession for women on spousal visas. Enables access to benefits which can open up a refuge space. You can also from here work with her to apply for leave to remain

    Meena from advises that all organisations have at least one member of staff trained at OAC level 1. Otherwise they cannot advise about immigration - it is now illegal to do so.

    For far too long the family courts have taken a dangerous “contact at all costs” approach in cases where there are findings of domestic abuse. We are urgently calling for an independent inquiry into the family court response to domestic abuse.
