The early buzz on Joaquin Phoenix's Joker film is turning doubters into believers
Todd Phillips says he can't figure out how to describe #Joker, but if he had to pick a genre, "it's a tragedy." Based on the very moody, atmospheric teaser trailer we just saw, I'd say that's apt. #CinemaCon
The Joker trailer is not what you expect it’s going to be. This isn’t cut like a comic book movie trailer but as a character piece, almost operatic
Just saw #CinemaCon footage of #Joker. Y'all I was a doubter...but this movie looks sick. And Joaquin Phoenix's Joker laugh is for real.
“I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realize it’s a comedy.” Wow, first teaser for #Joker is super dark and disturbing - the downfall of a man, dragged and beaten down until he turns and beats up on a world turned against him.

JOKER looks fucking incredible. “I used to think my life was a tragedy, but now I realize... it’s a comedy.” “Gotham has lost its way.” “What kind of coward would do something that cold-blooded? Someone who hides behind a mask.”
#Joker looks dark, emotional, and somewhat creepy. Joaquin's laugh will haunt me in my sleep. I can't wait.

This is definitely a darker, more grounded Gotham, plagued by a lunatic dressed like a clown. Arkham State Hospital appears - the teaser is set to Nat King Cole’s “Smile”. Way more of a psychological thriller. DC’s darkest movie yet?

Shots in the JOKER trailer evoke REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, KING OF COMEDY, much more. Very weird, very well cut, you do get to hear Phoenix’s Joker laugh. I fucking loved it.
The only shot of De Niro in it is a quick glimpse of him on stage and, long before that happened, I couldn’t stop thinking about KING OF COMEDY. Todd Phillips is clearly thinking about it, too.
99 percent sure I saw Brian Tyree Henry in that JOKER trailer.
The Joker trailer is dirty, grimy, unpleasant in tone - no neon lights and no dark nights. It’s grey and there’s no extravagance in The Joker’s life. We see him going crazy, constantly bullied.
I was intrigued by Todd Phillips' Joker, now the film is slotted right behind Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as most anticipated of the year. This sounds like such a great turn for comic book IP, and I love the idea of this being a one-off. Yes. More of this. Please.
I...didn't love the Joker trailer. It had some cool visuals but felt very disjointed and small, in a weird way? I still have no idea what the movie is which, I guess, is a good thing, but seeing footage hasn't changed or satisfied my curiosity at all.
During the #Joker trailer at #CinemaCon, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker says, "You wanna hear a joke? I'm a real JOKER!" And then a cartoon lightbulb appears above his head! True story.
General impression of #Joker is that it looks like a can’t miss film, even if just to watch Joaquin become the character. It also looks beautifully shot; dark and gritty, but crisp with some great Joker iconography. Can’t wait for you all to see it. #CinemaCon
#Joker trailer: Looks like a really dark and twisted character study. Joaquin Phoenix is living in the role and this will no doubt be another inspired and manic performance from him. If you’re missing the “dark” DC, then here’s your medicine. #CinemaCon
