On Monday, July 23rd, the Justice Monday protests against Police Brutality continued…
The People’s Organization for Progress (P.O.P) has been rallying to spotlight New Jersey’s underreported police brutality cases: The cases of Jerome Reid, Kashad Ashford, Abdul Kamal, Radazz Hearns, Darryl Fuqua and more …
This week’s rally will mark the 129th consecutive Justice Monday protest!
This week’s rally also marks the fourth anniversary of the police killing of Eric Garner. Garner was killed on July 17th, 2014 in an illegal chokehold captured on videotape. His killing sparked nationwide protests. Incredibly, Ramsey Orta, who captured the incident on his cellphone, faced a retaliatory prosecution and is in prison for unrelated issues many observers dispute. Garner’s daughter, Erica, whose passionate calls for justice, suffered and died from a major heart attack last year. Neither the City of New York, nor the Department of Justice has seen fit to prosecute any of the officers involved. The NYPD announced days ago that it would pursue administrative charges Officer Daniel Panteleo who applied the fatal chokehold. Panteleo can face termination.
The rally takes place in front of the Federal Building, 970 Broad Street, Newark at 5pm…
