An anonymous professor at an R1 institution in the US describes the influx of unskilled and entitled students.
Well, yes. It was ever thus. Has it become worse in recent times? And whose fault is that?
If you think corruption in elite US college admissions is bad, what happens once those students are in the classroom is even worse. I know, because I teach at an elite American university – one of the oldest and best-known, which rejects about 90% of applicants each year for the small number of places it can offer to undergraduates.
Mate, you are teaching at an institution that artificially keeps the number of places small in order to keep the prices up. That doesn't mean that I endorse cheaters and bribers, but that is still a fact to consider.
While such students have long been present in the form of legacy admits, top sports recruits and the kids of multimillion-dollar donors, the latest scandal represents a new tier of Americans elbowing their way into elite universities: unqualified students from families too poor to fund new buildings, but rich enough to pay six-figure bribes to coaches and admissions advisers.
I, too, long for the good old days when only rich people bribed my university. Now the plebs have arrived, with their new money. How crass! And I don't even get a new building out of it.

While U.S. President Donald #Trump is pushing for a #tradedeal to slash his country’s yawning deficit with #China, it was his French counterpart #EmmanuelMacron who landed a €30bn #aviation contract with Beijing on Monday (Mar 25). China concluded a deal to buy 300 #aircraft from #Airbus during President #XiJinping’s state visit to #France. The value of the deal was twice what was touted last year, and only compounds the woes of U.S. manufacturer #Boeing, whose #737MAX planes have been grounded across the world this month, after two fatal crashes.

He can educate you a bit on legit things to hate about the Orange Idiot. Glenn is as far left as it's possible to be and remain credible.

Celebration: countdown 2
At the end of a terrifying canyon, the Jerrara Creek falls a final 80m, 240' towards the Shoalhaven River. The canyon hosts 5 other falls ranging from 45m to 5m) in a one-way trip, inaccessible to any other than experienced abseilers.
I have one image to go in this series. As promised, today I published a book of this Collection (105pp, 52 plates) and it is available for you for free download at https://www.silenttheory.net . I encourage you to give it to friends and family. The book is meant as a celebration of all we were able to do here on G+. It is a gift from me to you. It will remain available for free until G+ ceases.
At the top of this fall, you will make out what appears to be a straight white pole just to the left of the top of the fall. It is a white tree trunk washed onto a high rock. While this landscape is dry and rocky, the (wet) canyon above the falls is moist, moss filled and full of long pools. There is about 100m there of the sort of swimming you do when there are sharks in the water. Inaccessible to all other than experienced abseilers.
Image: I have reprocessed this image from a sample of 736 shots of the fall area excluding, reluctantly, the canyon at the top of the fall. There are two superimposed panoramas here. The larger provides the rock wall and the amphitheatre near the base of the fall. The narrower follows the line of the fall, picking out the wet course.
