Ukraine’s Anarchist Militants – Video

Wednesday, April 17th, 2019

Comment from the team Effect Monroe
[presented in Russian social media]

We watched the film “Popular Front.Ukrainian militant anarchists.” Production, directorial work are at a high level and do not cause questions, but we will comment on the focus of journalists on one anarchist group, Revolutionary Dia. Let’s go over the news headlines from Ukraine for 2018, which are also available in English:

05/19/2018 Anarchists burned the crossover / anarchist revenge group “Svyatoshinskaya golytba”
05/21/2018 In Kiev, anarchists set fire to Lexus, belonging to deputy chairman of the EPU Grachev / “Fedos Schus” cell
09/19/2018 In Kiev, anarchists attacked the training center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs/ Ilya Romanov cell

In addition, the anonymous attacks in 2018, mentioned in the film Revolutionary Anarchists in BUR’18:

01/04/2018 Arson of municipal police cars
04/15/2018 The explosion at the Kyivenergo building
06/22/2018 Arson of the Oschadbank branch.

The rebels regularly declared about attacks in Ukraine until 2018 – while the communiques are signed by different groups: in half of the cases, these actions are claimed by FAI–IRF, the “Informal Anarchist Federation”. This is an active trend in Ukrainian anarchism which is quite different from the ideology of “Revdia” – therefore, in our opinion, the authors of the film should have taken this into account.

Who’s to judge? About the shooting attack on the courthouse in Kiev (Ukraine)

Wednesday, March 27th, 2019

The time has come to elaborate further on our attack on Holosiivskyi district court in Kiev.

Among the commentaries on the attack, we’ve read more than once that some people don’t understand our motives. They don’t get how does Azat Miftakhov’s arrest in Moscow have anything to do with a courthouse in Kiev. We’ll try to explain, because it’s important to get this seemingly obvious message across.

Choosing the target:
We decided to go for a government court building. A lot of us have a good idea of what exactly is a courthouse today. Who among us hasn’t been in court? Who’s never had a friend or acquaintance on trial? Everyone felt this utter disdain for judicial robes, those who are fainter of heart – even fear. Why do we have to respect and accept them? Someone gave them the right to take our freedom and our lives, so now they sit there, up high, when you are languishing underneath, behind bars, with a watchdog in uniform hovering over you. (more…)

Kiev: Anarchists shoot 15 rounds at the windows of Goloseyevsky court (Ukraine)

Friday, March 15th, 2019

On the morning of March 12, 2019, the police reported on the attack on the court.

The day before, we – the anarchists of Kiev, held an action of solidarity with the anarchist Azat Miftakhov detained in Moscow.

Once in prison, in the clutches of the punitive system, our comrades should be aware of the support, which is usually expressed in the form of concerts, pickets, letters… But more important is the confidence that their cause continues to live, confidence in the justification and consistency of their struggle. We do not care about Azat’s involvement in explosives and other episodes, because anyone who calls himself an anarchist is already guilty, and deserves punishment from the point of view of the state.

The best we can do for them is to continue the struggle and resistance. To make it clear that repression is not only a reason to show solidarity out of a sense of comradely duty, but also to once again realize the need for the complete destruction of the state and all its manifestations. What could be better for a comrade than to realize that the repressions only radicalized and rallied the movement, and his being in captivity is not in vain and, whatever may happen to him, his cause will live until the complete victory of the social revolution.

This time we decided to use the method of attack, unpopular for this case, among anarchists – firing from a rifle firearm. We have made 15 shots at the windows of the judges of the Goloseevsky district court of the city of Kiev.

The angle and place of fire were not chosen by chance, we took all measures to avoid casualties among the not involved population. Only persons belonging to power structures, representatives of the authorities and conscious citizens who decided to prevent us could suffer. Accidental victims were excluded.

Freedom to Azat! Comrades anarchists, it’s time to move from protest to resistance! With solidarity and partisan greetings!

Massive arrests and searches of anarchists in Ukraine

Sunday, December 9th, 2018

On the 6th of December, police and Ukrainian Security Forces arrested and searched anarchists in Kyiv, Lviv and Dnipro.

In Kiev, police searched the residence of Sergey Kovalenko (name and last name are changed). Sergey was not at home at that time. Law enforcement officers asked the mother of the activist to recognize her son on the video with the beating of Dmytro Verbych, former member of neo-nazi group C14, that happened on the 2d of May. Earlier, in April 2018, Sergey and her wife Svetlana (name is changed) were arrested during the action of solidarity with workers of Mykolaiv Shipbuilding factory. Also, police searched and interrogated animal rights and eco-activist Anna Luhova (name is changed). Anna was threatened with opening of a criminal case (296, 187, 263 of Ukrainian Criminal Code – hooliganism, brigandage, and illegal weapon possession), if she refuse to give information about members of the anarchist movement in Ukraine. Kiev: Attack against Interior Ministry training center by ‘Ilya Romanov anarchist cell / FAI–IRF’ (Ukraine)

Wednesday, October 10th, 2018

Repressions and prisons have become part of our lives, as well as of lives of all those recalcitrant comrades who prefer to conduct an offensive struggle against the state and capital, attacking all manifestations of power and destroy the oppressive order. More and more often in the course of this struggle, we hear calls from all corners of the world for solidarity with repressed and imprisoned like-minded people, we hear stories how yet another one of us was put behind bars, beaten, tortured or even killed , and also hear how this or that infrastructure of anarchists was destroyed, plundered, how this or that initiative suffered from raids from punitive groups of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD).

The authorities, like a hundred years ago, are trying to stop us. Today, like yesterday, we are opposed by the guardians of the state structures that were trained and endowed with the “legal right” or in simple words — state dogs loyal to their masters and interested in maintaining the status quo, repressing anarchists and other unruly people. Two publications about anarchism in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia

Saturday, July 28th, 2018

Two new publications in English. “The Russian government, like any authoritarian regime, can not exist without the image of the enemy, external or internal. But people since Soviet times have got used to an eternal “threat of the West” and its spies. Therefore, the society is increasingly being pushed onto the needle of brutal massacre of ” public enemy forces”. For this purpose, the topic of extremism is actively promoted and new “enemies” are being stamped out.”

Kiev, Ukraine: Anarchist Action at the Belarusian Embassy in Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners in Belarus

Monday, September 25th, 2017

On September 23, a group of Kiev anarchists held a picket outside the Belarusian embassy in solidarity with the anarchist prisoners. Activists unfurled a banner that said “DEATH TO THE DICTATOR!” and hung an effigy of Lukashenko on the fence of the embassy. At the moment, the Belarusian regime is holding anarchist comrades Dimitry Polienko and Kirill Alekseev in their dungeons.

We demand the release of all Belarusian political prisoners and express solidarity with their struggle for freedom against the dictatorial regime of Lukashenko. The death of the dictator is the only thing that will give the Belarusian people the opportunity to breathe freely.

Recently we have learned that the diplomats have already protested in connection with our last action. Anarchists will continue to carry out solidarity actions at the Belarusian embassy and violate the tranquility of the diplomatic corps, as long as there are political prisoners in the prisons of Belarus.

14 Tips on How to Get Ready for the Revolutionary Situation (Belarus)

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017

Anarchist and revolutionary must be ready for revolution to happen in every moment, especially now, when social and political protest all around the world are arising more and more often. Moreover, the possibility of global catastrophes and cataclysms is always present, and saving ourselves along with continuing our struggle in that case should always be in our agenda.

To write this article, we adopted the experience of people’s struggle in Ukrainian Maydan, successes and failures of recent anti-governmental protests in Belarus and Russia and analyzed the capacities and repressive tactics of police and intelligence in our country in last years. Though this tips were written first of all for comrades from above-mentioned countries, they may be useful for anarchists in any part of the world.

Note: for publishing this article, our site www.pramen.io was officially labeled as “extremist” by the Central district court, and blocked in Belarus (only accessible via Tor or VPN).

Call for International Solidarity with Taras Bogay, anarchist and eco-activist (Ukraine)

Sunday, March 19th, 2017

On the 19th of February, Taras Bogay, an anarchist and eco-activist from Lviv, Ukraine, was assaulted by a group of 20-30 drunk neo-nazis from the rightwing organisations Right Sector and the neo-nazi militia named the Azov battallion. They attacked Taras after he tried to protect a group of foreigners that the nazi group was harassing with racial slurs and threats.

During the fight the attackers threatened to kill Taras. He was knocked unconscious and sustained a heavy concussion and numerous cuts resulting in the near loss of one of his fingers. While defending himself and the foreigners, Taras slightly cut one of the attackers with no serious injury. Taras fought well, but the forces were uneven.

Despite Taras having been found covered in his own blood, the Lviv police department released news about the incident later that day without mentioning Taras’ injuries. The news stated: “the police arrested a 27-years old man that stabbed an 18-year old teenager in a conflict”.

A few days after the incident a false “witness” claimed that Taras suddenly attacked the group of innocent people, then cut himself and ran away. While every word of this evidence is a clear lie, it may be considered as proof of Taras’s fault in the court. The case clearly demonstrates that Ukrainian police has a strong affiliation with far-right organizations. Currently, Taras is being treated for his wounds, and is doing rehabilitation from his concussion. Taras is recovering gradually and his condition is gradually improving. Nevertheless, he is still unable to work.

Taras is experiencing severe financial problems. First, he is unable to work due to the injuries and have to pay medical bills. Second, to protect himself from the false charges, Taras requires a lawyer that cost at least €900 (he has concluded a contract with a lawyer for the period of investigation – about half of a year).

Without a good lawyer Taras could face a prison sentence between five and seven years (the charges being disorderly conduct and grievous bodily harm).

We have started the fundraising campaign at firefund.net/ukraine to collect €900 that will enable us to provide Taras with a good lawyer and help him to survive during the period of unemployment. The struggle against far-right politics relies on global solidarity and mutual aid.

Court hearings on the case of political prisoner Ilya Romanov started June 16 (Russia)

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

On June 2 preliminary hearing regarding the case of anarchist political prisoner Ilya Romanov from Nizhnii Novgorod was conducted in Moscow District Military Court. Ilya took part in the court session via video conference link. The court rejected all the petitions of the defendant’s lawyer, Evgeny Gubin, including the petition to cancel his “non-disclosure” pledge, which the investigating bodies made him to sign.

Moscow District Military Court starts hearing of the Romanov’s case on June 16 at 11:00. Sessions will be held in the building of Nizhegorodskii Regional Court (Russia, Nizhnii Novgorod, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya str., 17).

Nizhnii Novgorod regional department of the Federal Security Service (“FSB”) accuses Ilya of preparing a terrorist attack (the “attack” didn’t occur at all) and an attempt for justification of terrorism. The very fact of such double “might-have-been terrorism” in Russian province (where nobody has seen a single terrorist throughout the recent history at all), performed by one political activist, tells directly about political bias in this case.

Attack on the Autonomous workers’ union activist (Ukraine)

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

On Saturday, May 23, an activist of Autonomous Workers’ Union was attacked in the downtown Kyiv. The motives for the attack were political. The attackers had set up a meeting with the artist Dmitry M., posing as customers for his services. When Dmitry arrived, the two guys menacingly suggested to “go and talk somewhere else” and attacked him outright after his refusal. The fight was over in no time, as some passers-by intervened — the attackers withdrew, shouting their excuses: “He was the first to snitch on us on the Internet!”

The activist wasn’t injured; however, this act cannot be ignored. This set-up meeting was arranged neither by the police agents nor by boneheads, but by our Belarusian “comrades” – former political prisoner Alyaksandr Franzkevich and his friend Maxim aka “The Belarusian”. (more…)

About the anti-fascist struggle after Maidan (Ukraine)

Monday, April 20th, 2015

This is a translation of a brochure written by 2 anti-authoritarian communist groups, Vida (Rivet) and Proletconnect about the anti-fascist struggle in Ukraine after the Maidan events. Events unfold on very high speed and although this brochure discusses the Ukrainian reality until June 2014, to the opinion of the translator it offers insight on the background of the conflict and the international geopolitical significance of these events. It offers a different interpretation compared to western media and even parts of the western left.

In USSR times…

“…Its (Kiev’s) buildings are famous all over Russia. It was a center of religion. And now it is a semi-ruin. Here the Germans showed what they could do. Every public building, every library, every theater, even the permanent circus, destroyed, not with gunfire, not through fighting, but with fire and dynamite. Its university is burned and tumbled, its schools in ruins. This was not fighting, this was the crazy destruction of every cultural facility the city had, and nearly every beautiful building that had been put up during a thousand years. Here German civilization did its work, and one of the few justices in the world is that German prisoners are helping clean up the mess that they made.

International solidarity with anti-fascist Alexander Kolchenko (Russia)

Sunday, March 15th, 2015

Alexander Kolchenko is a Crimean anarchist, social activist and antifascist who is held in captivity by the Russian authorities. Along with other Crimean activists, he has been kidnapped by the Russian FSB (ex-KGB) and is now detained as a political hostage in Lefortovo jail in Moscow. He is charged with committing “acts of terrorism” and “belonging to a terrorist community”.

Why is Alexander Kolchenko in jail?

Alexander, who has undeniably proved his antifascist stance over many years, is facing preposterous accusations of belonging to “Right Sector”, a radical Ukrainian right-wing organization, whose real role in Ukrainian events is blown out of proportion by Russian official propaganda.

In modern Russia any activist — left-wing, anarchist or liberal — can be slandered as a member or sympathizer of “Right Sector”. This situation is comparable to the hunt for nonexistent “Trotskyists” under Stalin, or the McCarthy witch-hunt for communists. Putin’s authoritarian and nationalist regime, which uses in its propaganda everything from religious prejudices and conspiracy theories to outright racism, shamelessly steals “antifascist” rhetoric. And yet anyone who is considered bothersome is called a “fascist”, even if he/she stands on the opposite side of the political spectrum. (more…)
