Volkswagen has revealed a limited edition Multivan with a sporting touch.

Dubbed the Black Edition, just 230 examples of the dressed-up seven-seat people mover will be offered in Australia, each costing $63,990 driveaway.

Based on the Multivan Comfortline TDI340, the Black Edition features re-tuned suspension settings with a 20mm reduction in ride height and a host of black exterior highlights, including the unique 18-inch alloy wheels, roof, B-Pillars and the special decals on its flanks.

Inside the cabin, there's exclusive Titanium Black cloth seat trim with constrast-coloured stitching and a Halifax Maple wooden floor in the rear compartment, which features two individual chairs in the middle row and a three-seat bench at the back that can be rearranged in a multitude of configurations thanks to a sliding rail system.

The rear bench, for example, can be moved forward or backward to increase cabin or boot space, and even folded flat to create a bed. The middle-row chairs can be arranged to face forward or back too.

There are no mechanical changes to the Multivan's powertrain set-up, which continues to use a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder that produces 103kW and 340Nm and drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Keep the Family Safe on your Easter Road Trip

The Black Edition will be offered in a choice of six colours, with Cherry Red and Candy White available at no extra cost while premium Acapulco Blue, Tumeric Yellow, Reflex Silver and Indium Grey command an additional $1720.

Like all Volkswagen models, the Multivan Black Edition is covered by a five-year / unlimited kilometre warranty while customers can personalise it with a host of accessories.
