Celebration: countdown 5

A giant once stole three girls swimming in a pool at the top of these falls. One of the girls called all the birds in the sky to help free them, and a multitude of birds came and threw the giant's head to the ground. The giant's head may still be seen at the foot of these falls. Look closely, and you will see the tears falling from his eye.

The Giant was not alone. Look and see the other giants all around us. When they torment, remember the birds. Turn to the sky and call them with all your breath.

This is the Tuross River at the Wadbilliga near the sunken forests of the Duea. It drops about 200m (600') and is one of the most remote falls safely accessible to bushwalkers.

Image: I have processed a slightly wider image (for printing as one of the images in a 'brutal art' exhibition). This is a wider angle version. I chose a soft 'ink and watercolor' approach to pick out each of the rocks in the scene (working with a black and white image before washing color back into the image).

Check out which bases in foreign countries are being considered for school and child care cuts. Then look at the Alaskan air base with no room for a school with 240 children additional. First Congress threatened to cut off federal funds to universities using components made by telecom giant #Huawei. Next came a classified FBI briefing last fall for University of California research chiefs about foreign espionage threats. Then in January the US government charged the Chinese firm with bank fraud, violating US sanctions against Iran and theft of trade secrets. Berkeley is among a growing number of American universities, including such research powerhouses as Stanford, MIT and UC San Diego, that have begun to cut off ties with Huawei.

The moves come in response to warnings from US law enforcement agencies that Huawei can't be trusted and could secretly do Beijing's bidding, whether by spying or sabotage. Moreover, the #Trumpadministration wants to restrain Huawei - the world's largest telecom equipment maker - from expanding its grip on development of critical #5G infrastructure, the next-generation wireless networking system that experts believe will transform connectivity for self-driving cars, factory automation and many other applications.

President #Trump’s objections to #HillaryClinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state were never terribly convincing. At times, he claimed that Clinton, his Democratic presidential challenger in 2016, had tried to shield unethical activity by using a personal account. At others, he specifically criticized her for having shared classified material through her personal account.

If Trump’s broad criticism was true, that the use of a private account to conduct official business is suspect - if not illegal - and represents an effort to mask illicit activity, then we have bad news for him: An awful lot of that same suspect activity is taking place in his administration. Trump’s son-in-law, #JaredKushner, and daughter #IvankaTrump, both advisers to the president, had used either personal email accounts or the messaging application WhatsApp to conduct official business, according to information from the House Oversight Committee. The committee also learned that former deputy national security adviser K.T. McFarland and former adviser Stephen K. Bannon had also, at times, used personal email accounts for official business.
