The Sonic Cafe: Sonic Cafe #130/The Chinese Conspiracy, Segment 1

23 hours 23 minutes ago
Sonic Café, from The Grand Pecking Order LP that is Mr. Oysterhead here on the Sonic Café. Welcome to episode 130. I’m your host Scott Clark, so glad you could drop by the program. This time the Sonic Café presents a very eclectic mix of tunes we’ve pulled from 38 years. So eclectic in fact, that we bet you’ve never heard of most of the artists, and you’ve probably never heard any of the tunes. But stick around because they’re all great. Listen for music from Dim Dim, Ghost Beach, Afterlife, Mark Eitzel and many more. Then later the Sonic Café features comedian Robert Mac, presenting his vast array of Chinese Conspiracy Theories, so good they’re almost believable. And finally a big Sonic Café welcome to our newest sponsor. E-Meth. E-Meth, it’s Crystal Meth, but now electronic, so it produces vapor instead of smoke. So now you can ride the ice pony anywhere you want with all new E-Meth. All that and of course more this time as we present another hour of intelligent, eclectic music, comedy and pop culture from that little café on the coast where we’re cookin’ it up fresh just for you. We’re the Sonic Café.

The Alembic Files: Phantasms of Freedom, Part 7, Segment 1

1 day 1 hour ago
Summary: How well do we know the history of our nation? As for our Founders, what is fact? What is myth? While we have been told we are free, we face an increasing onslaught of laws, edicts, and proclamations governing our lives as American citizens. We have been told that “we need to get our Constitution back.” Do we truly need to do that? We are, during every election cycle, given a “choice.” But is it a real choice? Or a Hobson’s choice? Were our Founders the godlike, towering figures we were taught? Were they above reproach? Or were they human beings, subject to the same avarice, temptations and lust we all are? What were their motivations in starting this country? Were they benign in nature, inspired to offer their fellow countrymen “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?” Or were there other instincts at play? Was the Constitution truly designed to be the bulwark of freedom? Why were the Articles of Confederation jettisoned? Who were the Anti-Federalists? Why did they get such short shrift by history? What was the worth of the Founders? Were they Everymen? Or rich elites? The answers, when explored from an “unofficial” vantage point, may surprise you. Listen along as Eric the Blacksmith discusses American history with Al Aric and Theo. Current events are interspersed. Explore the nooks and crannies of suppressed information as the book “Hologram of Liberty” by Kenneth Royce is reviewed and its bibliography examined.

Radio Curious: Maria Stewart – Sandra Kamusukiri – A Visit With a Free Black Woman – Boston 1840, Segment 1

1 day 21 hours ago
Maria W. Stewart, as characterized by professor and scholar Sandra Kamusakiri, was a free black woman who lived in Boston, MA, from the 1820s to the early 1840s. She was the first American born woman to lecture in public on political themes and likely the first African-American to speak out in defense of women’s rights. A forerunner to Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, she was intensely religious and regarded as outspoken and controversial during her time. For more than a century, Maria W. Stewart’s life contributions remained obscured, illustrating the double pressures of racism and sexism on the lives African-American women. I met with Mariah W. Stewart in the person of Professor Sandra Kamusukiri during the 1996 Democracy in America Chautauqua, held in Ukiah, California. Maria Stewart recommends “The Fair Sketches of Women,” by John Adams and “The Bible.” Originally Broadcast: November 27, 1996

An interview with Louisa, a person working to support residents of 103-105 Westlodge Dr in Toronto as they have faced intermittent heat, power, and water service in their apartments from at least February 2019. The two high rise apartment buildings were recently bought by the multinational asset management firm Timbercreek who have focused on evicting residents through the landlord tribunal while letting the buildings fall further into disrepair.
