The Police: An Ethnography—A Photoessay about Armed Obedience — CrimethInc.

Today is the Ides of March, a day of repercussions for tyrants of all kinds. Starting in 1997, people in Montréal and elsewhere around the world have observed March 15 as an International Day Against Police Brutality. For our part, we have long sought to lay bare the function of the police in imposing racialized […]

Demographic demise

“The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum, a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”
– Antonio Gramsci, Selections from the Prison Notebooks

Michael Roberts Blog

There is one outstanding statistical feature of 21st century capitalism.  Capitalism is increasingly failing to develop what Marx called the “productive forces” (namely the technology and labour necessary to expand the output of things and services that human society needs or wants).  As measured by gross national product in all the economies of the world (or per person), world capitalism is finding it more and more difficult to expand.

When Marx and Engels wrote the Communist Manifesto 170 years ago, they proclaimed the productive power unleashed by the capitalist exploitation of labour power, based on using more and more means of production (machines, technology etc) to replace human labour, while extending its tentacles to all parts of the globe.  Indeed, the rapacious drive for profit has led to an uncontrolled destruction of nature and of the earth’s resources that has polluted the planet.  And now, fossil fuel production has…

Open meeting: Green Anti-capitalist Front – 23 March

London Anarchist Federation

The Green Anti-Capitalist Front is a new movement supported by radical groups and individuals across London and the UK which aims to support the surge of actions being carried out by Extinction Rebellion while also offering a radical alternative for those who see the abolition of capitalism as the only real means of avoiding complete ecological catastrophe. We also recognise that many of us would like to be involved in actions which do not include asking to be arrested or collaborating with the police. We are calling for an open assembly where we can decide how we wish to interact with Extinction Rebellion and what alternative actions we can pursue.

We will be holding this meeting at The Common House, Unit E, 5 Pundersons Gardens, Bethnal Green London, E2 9QG from 3 – 6pm on the 23rd March 2019.

Thurrock Council indifference to residents getting grief from developers

You have to wonder what informs the relationship between Thurrock Council and developers operating in the area. This is because developers all too often seem to be able to flout the conditions imposed upon them when they get the planning permission to go ahead with a project. This is the latest example that has come to our attention: Campaigner’s anger at council wall of silence over building work blight on neighbourhood.

To facilitate a development of new houses on the site of former allotments in Belmont Road, Grays, residents in neighbouring Parker Road have seen much of the pocket park at the top end of their road taken over by the builders to use as a storage/operational compound. To add insult to injury, access to the building site is via a lane running between two houses.

There have been numerous breaches by the builders of the conditions laid down in…
