Metallica – WorldWired Tour 2019
It is with much regret to announce that Metallica's upcoming 'WorldWired Tour' in Australia has been postponed due to James' treatment program.
Here's the official statement from Metallica members Lars, Kirk and Rob:
"We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.
As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again. We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can.
Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows. We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family."
According to Live Nation, they are working with Metallica to secure a new tour period and will make a further announcement as soon as possible. All tickets purchased to the shows in Australia, including Enhanced Experiences and Black Tickets, will be fully refunded.
Had the shows not been postponed, Metallica would've kicked off their long overdue return to Australia this October. They are due to perform shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums across the globe and playing to millions of fans worldwide. They have scored almost a dozen multi-platinum albums, including 1991's 'Metallica' (commonly referred to as 'The Black Album'), which is the best selling album in history of Soundscan, scanning almost 15.7 million albums in the United States alone, and over 25 million worldwide. In October 2008, their latest album 'Death Magnetic' debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and in 27 additional countries around the world. Award magnets, Metallica have nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards under their belt. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
