I am happy to report that I jogged 6 miles on December 24, 2018 to celebrate my 65th birthday. I did it on the track in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, NJ. I jogged 6 miles, 24 laps around the quarter mile track there. Last year I did 5 miles. Next year, weather, body and health permitting, I hope to jog 7 miles on my 66th birthday. My thanks to my friends Chuck Baldwin and Bob Witanek for coming to the track to jog with me. Chuck came with his son and did a mile. Bob did six miles. I also want to thank Bob for taking the picture below of me finishing up the 24th and last lap. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to run or might not be able to finish because I blew my left knee out last Tuesday night when a bad case of runner’s knee flared up and I had to walk back home limping all the way. So, I didn’t do my regular jogging workout for the next six days. When it was time to run yesterday my knee was sore but fortunately it held up for the 24 laps. I wasn’t racing. I ran slow but steady and went the entire way without stopping. When I finished I was tired but I had that runner’s high and a feeling of accomplishment. Jogging 6 miles might not seem like much to experienced runners but it was an important personal goal for me. I thank all of you who supported me in this endeavor and sent me words of encouragement and birthday greetings. You really don’t know how important your support was. While I was struggling through those six miles every time I felt like stopping I thought of the inspiring messages you sent and that made me want to keep going. I am going to adjust my training regimen but I am going to continue to workout through the winter and the rest of 2019. I have to work on my nutrition and incorporate strength and stretching exercises in my routine. I invite you to workout with me over the course of this year and I want all of you to join me when I attempt to run seven miles on my 66th Birthday. Again, thank you so much for all your support. And Happy Holidays to all of you and your families. The struggle continues. Power to the people!!!
