@Save the Children US has warned that a whole generation of children growing up in Gaza suffer from deep psychological distress. Nearly 100 percent of the young adolescents surveyed by the organisation displayed symptoms such as feelings of depression, hyperactivity, aggression and a preference for being alone.

Earlier this year, @AJRewind went back to Gaza to meet children Al Jazeera had featured in 2007. Watch their stories here: http://aje.io/lkv23

Research by the rights group found 95 percent of young people surveyed in Gaza showed deep psychological distress.

“(I was) two weeks old (when) my father went to prison. He did 15 years straight. I met him when I went to prison at 15, with 15 years…. From 4-11, I experienced watching my mother shoot heroin, shoot cocaine. All of my immediate family – aunts, uncles had drug problems and I saw a lot of people die, a lot of people get shot, saw a lot of prison, saw a lot of bad, a lot of lives lost.”

Tyree Colion, a rapper and former gang member who has shot at least 10 people, has now turned his life around. A convert to Islam, he saves lives through the No Shoot Zones initiative he has set up in some of the most violent neighbourhoods of Baltimore.
