Hesperia (Sloperia)[edit]

You know the butterfly Hesperia (Sloperia) proto (Ochsenheimer – 1808)? Help me if you can please, thanks --Marica Massaro (talk) 19:32, 22 August 2016 (UTC).

Page inconsistence (Language)[edit]

When I click on Wikispecies in other languages -> Deutsch, I see the German version of this page, which is correct. Clicking on Deutsch in the left column of In Wikipedia sould give me the same result. But there I get the German Wikipedia main page instead – and that is not correct. 2001:A61:304C:7E01:80F1:E05E:F644:3246 16:21, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

That link is supposed to be a link to the Wikipedia main page, and if you click on the "Deutsch" link you are supposed to reach the main page of the German Wikipedia language version. However, since the menu headline says "In Wikipedia" one can argue that users may expect to instead reach the Wikipedia page regarding Wikispecies, rather than the main page. Perhaps we should change the headline to simply say "Wikipedia"? –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 07:32, 18 October 2016 (UTC).
I don't get the reason why this should be different to all other WP-articles. In ANY WP-topic clicking on the left column means to go to the same article in the clicked language (if there is one in this language). So why should anyone mean, there could be a better mechanism here doing other? (this would be like producing a media player, where a button is marked exactly like the play-button in any other media playing system, but don't starting the playing HERE). It is ridiculous to assume that anyone needs a link to Wikipedia in his own language - since if anyone uses Wikipedia, he will knew how to get there without many thinking. But if i'm anywhere within a specific topic - possibly got there by hopping link after link after link etc., then it is obviously a possible need to get the same page in another language. But any link to the WP main page is nothing else but useless decoration. 2001:A61:3068:8F01:58BD:CE3D:39BF:4AAF 13:54, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I agree. However, it turns out changing the left menu items is not trivial, even for a Wikispecies bureaucrat such as myself. I'll look in to it though. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 15:28, 19 October 2016 (UTC).

Endangered species of the month[edit]

Template:Especies-2017-11 has not been created. Are there any plans to create new templates for endangered species of the month? For now, the template could redirect to either Template:Especies-2017-01 or Template:Especies-2017-05. Thanks, Korg (talk) 22:02, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

I've now created the {{Especies-2017-11}} template. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 20:18, 3 November 2017 (UTC).
Thank you! Korg (talk) 09:27, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Broken link to ZooKeys[edit]

In section Explore Wikispecies link to ZooKeys is broken. Also potential link to PhytoKeys is missing. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mrpalermo (talkcontribs) 21:29, 24 November 2017‎.

@Mrpalermo: Fixed; thank you - though that does seem to be rather stale news, and needs to be updated, if not removed. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:41, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

Especies-* templates (again)[edit]

The main page transcludes {{Especies-2018-08}}, which doesn't exist, and I'm apparently not allowed to create it (as a redirect to {{Especies-2017-11}} – the last one that was created). Shouldn't this be done differently, since it's apparently a recurring issue? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 01:33, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

@AlanM1: I've now created the {{Especies-2018-08}} template. The Wikispecies Main Page and transcluded templates has been write protected a long time, and can only be edited by our administrators and bureaucrats. This is unfortunate but has been deemed necessary by the community in order to counter frequently recurring vandalism to the page. Protecting the Main Page (and transcluded pages) is standard procedure on almost all of the Wikimedia sister projects, including all language versions of Wikipedia, Commons, Wiktionary, and Meta-Wiki. To my knowledge the only exception is Wikidata where not only admins and 'crats are allowed to edit the Main Page, but also members of the autoconfirmed user group. Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 20:46, 9 August 2018 (UTC).
@Tommy Kronkvist: Thanks. I'm aware of the need for protection. What I meant was that the particular issue (the species of the month) could be done differently. How about transcluding {{Especies of the month}} and making that page a redirect to whatever the latest template is (e.g. {{Especies-2018-08}}. When a new template for a month is created, the user could also edit {{Especies of the month}} to point to it. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 01:29, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
