    Today I embarked on my first door knock in Sydney’s Mortdale and met Jonathan. He believes that both himself and his mates should be receiving penalty rates and says that he will not vote for a government which cuts penalty rates. P.S. Happy Mardi Gras 🌈

    This is like saying “if only kids today would embrace slavery then we could be achieving great things like building the pyramids or Rome”. Exploitation, however you dress it up, is not a business model it’s just ripping people off

    People didn’t have to do unpaid work or “internships” at Muffin Break when I was 20, and probably not when you were 20 either. This sense of entitlement that young people should work for you for free is the “inflated” thing my friend

    I did a 9hr unpaid trial at at Toombul as a 14yo before I thankfully got a job at the Maccas there. MB wouldn’t even give me free water to drink (I forgot to BYO a water bottle) and made me buy one of their overpriced Mt Franklins. 1/2

    At a Senate inquiry into the franchise sector last year a Muffin Break owner said he was told by the company to ‘consider underpaying staff I can trust’. Rent & franchise fees are set high while punishments low. Wage theft is systematically encouraged.
