John Passant

  • John Passant is Independent Australia's Canberra correspondent and a member of the Press Gallery.

    He is a former tax lecturer and Assistant Commissioner of Taxation in charge of international tax reform in the ATO.

    John is also a PhD student in the School of Politics and International Relations at the ANU. He is looking into the political economy of taxation.

    John’s first book of poetry, Songs for the Band Unformed, was published in 2016. You can buy signed copies from the IA online store. His second book of poetry, Whose Broken is This? will be published in late 2018.

    John has been a regular political columnist with IA since the beginning of 2016.
