The Brain Cancer Group is a collaborative team of leading brain cancer specialists. We apply insights from frontline patient care to inform activities across research, support and education, to ensure we are making a difference in the lives of those affected by brain cancer.

Collaborating and Campaigning for equal and affordable access

In a collaborative effort, The Brain Cancer Group – From Care2Cure has joined with other Not-for-Profit groups (see Cure Brain Cancer submission) to endorse a PBAC listing of bevacizumab on the PBS for the treatment of relapsed glioblastoma (Grade IV glioma, GBM). As a Group who have funded dedicated Neuro-Oncology Care Coordinators for over 10 years, we have an intimate connection to a range of primary brain cancer patients. This close insight has identified concerning variation in clinical care.

WE HAVE HAD A BALL IN 2018…

The White Pearl Foundation held their 4th Annual White Pearl Ball on Saturday 10th November to raise funds for The Brain Cancer Group’s research program.

Guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening including entertainment by Rat Pack Reloaded and DJ Darcy, Cocktails for a Cause with Bar-Bae and lots of fun photos with Style Booths. With help from supporters, the White Pearl Ball raised over $190,000.

Suzane Peponis-Brisimis, founder of the White Pearl Foundation and TBCG Board Member, “Thank you to all our donors, prize donors, sponsors, advertisers and attendees, with special mention of the White Pearl Ball Corporate Partner, the Bank of Sydney and our volunteers from the Bank of Sydney and Year 11 students from St Spyridon College.

We came together on November 10th in the Maritime Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Sydney for a fun and meaningful event and the generosity of many helped raise $192,000, far surpassing our goal of $140,000 for the purchase of the Elispot Reader. Community support of the work of the dedicated researchers of The Brain Cancer Group is absolutely critical and we remain enormously grateful to all our supporters.”

Solution Plant Hire Ball

A vibrant group came together for a special event hosted by our friends at Solution Plant Hire. With Ben Fordham kindly volunteering as MC, there were plenty of laughs and dancing as comedian and ventriloquist Darren Carr and the band Furnace and the Fundamentals entertained the 268 attendees.

The Brain Cancer Group Director and Medical Oncologist, Associate Professor Helen Wheeler, provided insights into the patient journey and unique challenges faced by brain cancer patients. The event raised over $100, 000 under the expert guidance of Auctioneer, Stu Dodwell.

A special thanks to Andrew Smith (GM of Solution Plant Hire), Earthmoving Equipment Australia (Gold sponsor), Plant Haul (Silver sponsor) and Magnolia Lane (Silver sponsor), Altus Financial (Bronze sponsor) and Assignar (Bronze sponsor) and to the amazing Rebbecas (Rebbeca Korman and Rebecca White) for pulling the event together!

Thank you Martha Rice!

Recently, the inspiring Martha Rice handed over a $136,173 cheque which was the proceeds from the Laugh Your Head Off Gala Dinner (June 2018).

The funds raised will go directly to funding additional Neuro-Oncology Care Coordination resources that will help improve outcomes for Brain Cancer patients. Well done Martha and team!

VIDEO:TODAY’S RESEARCH IS TOMORROW’S CURE

Thank you to all those who contributed their time and expertise to help make this video. “Today’s research is tomorrow’s cure” touches on how brain cancer affects patients and families. It also discusses the research we are doing to give hope to those suffering from this terrible disease.

We believe that the research being done in our lab will one day contribute to the cure of brain cancer.
