This fact sheet presents data on the characteristics of offenders who came under the supervision of the Alaska Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole (DOC-PP) between 2002 and 2016. Probation and parole offender data are from the Alaska Department of Corrections’ annual Offender Profile publication. Offender statistics are not differentiated by probation or parole designation. The Illinois Statistical Analysis Center recently published Opioid Prescribing in Illinois: Examining Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Data. Excessive opioid prescribing increases exposure to those drugs and increases their volume in communities. Over-prescribing has been associated with growing rates of opioid use disorder, overdose, and death. The Tennessee Statistical Analysis Center recently published School Crime 2015-2017. This annual school crime study presents the nature, volume, and extent of reported crimes on school campuses, excluding colleges and universities in 2017. The time frame covered in this study was the years 2015-2017. This study was completed using data provided to the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS). Read More.
The Kansas Statistical Analysis Center recently published FY 2017 Annual Report. Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Annual Report is the twenty-third report released by the Kansas Sentencing Commission. It provides a descriptive analysis of felony sentencing pattern under the sentencing guidelines during FY 2017, which includes a summary of sentences reported to the Commission, analysis of sentence conformity to the guidelines, sentencing trends and prison population projections. The Indiana Statistical Analysis Center recently published 2016 Indiana Crime Victimization Survey. Currently, Indiana lacks a source of comprehensive crime data. This gap in available justice data is problematic; the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) sought to address this issue with the implementation of the Indiana Crime Victimization Survey (ICVS). This report provides an overview of the 2016 Indiana Crime Victimization Survey findings. Read More.
The Idaho Statistical Analysis Center recently published 2009-2015 Intimate Partner and Domestic Violence in Idaho. The purpose of this report is to inform the criminal justice community and other interested parties about the prevalence, characteristics, and criminal justice system response to intimate partner and domestic violence in Idaho. Data include information on police reported violence between intimate partners as well as domestic violence related court cases from 2009 through 2015. Read More.
The Louisiana Statistical Analysis Center recently published Crime in Louisiana 2016. This publication of Crime in Louisiana is to provide the reader with the most current certified information available regarding the number of offenses reported and arrests by Louisiana law enforcement agencies. The information is designed to increase public awareness and understanding of such issues that impact the law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in Louisiana. Read More.
The New Mexico Statistical Analysis Center recently published Bookings and case dispositions: Violent, property, and drug crimes in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. The Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) is helping to lead a municipal drug strategy initiative for Santa Fe, New Mexico. As part of these efforts, they are interested in obtaining a variety of data to inform their strategies. The current report contributes to those efforts by providing information about bookings and related court case dispositions in Santa Fe County. Read More.
The Maine Statistical Analysis Center recently published 2017 Court Access & Fairness Survey Report. This report summarizes the findings from the 2017 Maine Court Access and Fairness Survey, which asked survey participants to respond to a series of court “access” and “fairness” questions. The survey was conducted in March 2017 by the Maine Statistical Analysis Center and was completed by 1,039 participants, all of whom were visitors to various courthouses across the State of Maine. The Colorado Statistical Analysis Center recently published Analysis of Colorado State Board of Parole Decisions: FY 2017 Report. The Colorado State Board of Parole (“the Board”) is created and described in §17-2-201, C.R.S. and it functions under a “type 1 transfer”1 to the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) pursuant to §24-1-128.5(3), C.R.S. The Board, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Colorado State Senate, includes seven members who serve three-year terms. Read More.
The Wyoming Statistical Analysis Center recently published Telling the Story of Opioid Use in Wyoming.The State Epidemiological and Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW) strives to provide public health stakeholders with data to inform decisions and policies. It is imperative to investigate the unique version of the opioid crisis that is happening in the state of Wyoming and respond with data-driven decisions, as well as targeted strategies and solutions for prevention and treatment. The Oregon Statistical Analysis Center recently published FinalBenefit-Cost Analysis Report on Department of Corrections. CJC calculated the avoided costs to the criminal justice system due to program effectiveness. In other words, because a criminal justice program was successful at changing the behavior of an offender (and thus reducing recidivism), Oregon's criminal justice system was able to avoid costs related to reoffending. The Arizona Statistical Analysis Center recently published Review of Arizona Revised Statutes Containing A Felony Criminal Penalty. At the direction of the Commission, ACJC's Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) along with program staff undertook a review of those Arizona Revised Statutes that contained a felony criminal penalty to determine the frequency of statute charges at the time of arrest across five-year, ten-year, and 15-year periods. Staff reviewed an extract of the Arizona Computerized Criminal History (ACCH) repository, maintained at the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), to capture arrest charging frequency across Arizona Revised Statute criminal codes. The Connecticut Statistical Analysis Center recently published CT Recidivism Rates. The Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division (CJPPD) at CT OPM is required to report on recidivism among Connecticut prisoners on an annual basis. OPM calculates four separate measures of recidivism
for offenders leaving prison. They are: 1) new arrests 2) new convictions 3) returns-to-prison for any reason, and 4) returns-to-prison to begin a new sentence of incarceration. Read More.
The Florida Statistical Analysis Center recently published Florida Crime At a Glance. The following data comes from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) system; the system provides standardized annual and semi-annual reports on crime statistics based on data gathered from across the state. The DC Statistical Analysis Center recently published An Analysis of Human Trafficking in the District of Columbia. Human trafficking involves the exploitation of a person typically through force, fraud, or coercion for such purposes as forced labor, involuntary servitude, or commercial sex. Human trafficking is described as a multi-billion dollar, modern-day slavery industry that imprisons more than 20 million people worldwide, regardless of age, gender, race, or nationality. Read More.
The Iowa Statistical Analysis Center recently published Iowa Sex Offender Research Council 2018 Annual Report. As directed by Iowa's Sex Offender Research Council (SORC), CJJP has prepared the following 2018 SORC report for the General Assembly which examines the following: Disposition of sexual abuse charges, Disposition of domestic abuse assault charges, The ways in which cases involving both sexual abuse and domestic abuse assault charges are disposed and program delivery to co-occurring offenders, and The public safety effect of mandatory minimum sentencing for domestic abuse 3rd and subsequent offenders, as passed in House File 263. The Massachusetts Statistical Analysis Center recently published Electronic Control Weapons in Massachusetts.This report examines data prepared by Massachusetts law enforcement agencies with approved electronic control weapons (ECW) training programs for the period January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. Approved agencies are required to complete and submit semi-annual ECW reports on information related to: 1) the number of sworn officers serving the agency; 2) the number of ECW trained officers serving the agency; 3) the number of ECWs owned by the agency; 4) the number of total incidents that occurred during the reporting period; 5) general details about each incident (e.g., warnings, deployments, submissions, etc.); and 6) demographic information about the subject. The Illinois Statistical Analysis Center recently published Victim Service Delivery:Illinois Provider's Perspectives on Victim Service Barriers and Agency Capacity. In June 2016, ICJIA researchers conducted a statewide study to better understand crime victim needs, identify service gaps, and measure the capacity of Illinois victim service providers. The study was initiated to inform ICJIA's strategic plan to establish victim service funding priorities for use of S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) funds. The larger project included a review of existing literature, an analysis of administrative data, and surveys and discussions with victims and their family members, victim service providers, and criminal justice practitioners. The recommendations from the larger project were restricted to allowable activities for VAWA and VOCA funds. Read More.
The Hawaii Statistical Analysis Center recently published Scorecard Report. The Scorecard Report presents annually-updated trend analyses of Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) indicators, as identified by the Interagency Council on Intermediate Sanctions (ICIS) and implemented by corrections agencies throughout the State of Hawaii. It is not designed to report on individual agencies, circuits, or specific offender treatment outcomes and program services. The data come from records on offenders who were sentenced to probation, released to parole, and Maximum Term Release ("maxedout") prisoners in Fiscal Years 2012-2016. Read More.
