Yahoo Doubles Down on Video at 2016 NewFront

By Lisa Utzschneider, Chief Revenue Officer

image

Today at our Newfront event in New York City, we’re sharing the latest updates on high-quality video content across our four core verticals: news, sports, finance and lifestyle. We have a focused strategy to bring the best short-form and live programming to our users, and opportunities for our advertisers.

But it’s not just about our programming. We offer some of the best native and programmatic video solutions in the market via BrightRoll and Yahoo Gemini, our ad tech platforms. It’s the combination of Yahoo’s world-class content, technology and unique data that is critical for advertisers in 2016 and makes Yahoo an important partner.

In fact, video advertising is one of the fastest growing areas of our business, up 64% in 2015, and our new approach will help amplify this growth. Our team produced 54% more video in 2015 than in 2014, with over 8,000 video segments coming out of our state-of-the-art studios in Los Angeles, New York and Sunnyvale.

Compared to a year ago, video viewers on Yahoo are now consuming 55% more videos and spending 85% more time with this content on average. That translates into meaningful opportunities for marketers.

Highlights from Yahoo’s 2016 Video Programming

Top brands like Lexus are partnering with Yahoo to connect with fans through video, display, and native advertising and we shared a new case study from their sponsorship of Yahoo Sports’ Tourney Pick'em this year. We also expanded our open viewability measurement to include native video in Yahoo Gemini, through our partnership with Moat. Yahoo offers guaranteed viewability from Moat and other accredited third party vendors for display, video and native video ad formats across our ad platforms.

Missed The BrightRoll Video Summit? Catch Up Here!

By Guy Yalif, VP Global Marketing, BrightRoll

BrightRoll recently hosted the eighth annual video summit in NYC to explore the latest trends in programmatic video. Nearly 800 marketers, agencies, publishers and influencers from across the digital advertising world came together for this successful event.

BrightRoll CEO Tod Sacerdoti opened the day with a keynote, diving into the latest industry trends and company updates. During his keynote, he shared two exciting announcements from BrightRoll about new mobile video offerings and ad fraud solutions. Tod also talked about the prospect of “growing the programmatic pie” and explained that the future of programmatic growth comes down to four core pillars - data strength, inventory quality, mobile growth and global approach.

The summit then dove into a series of important discussions with industry thought leaders around programmatic strategies, ad fraud, mobile targeting and measurement, and the future of digital video advertising. For more on the BrightRoll Video Summit and to watch all of the videos check out the Brightroll blog.

BrightRoll Expands Mobile Offerings and Partnership with DoubleVerify at BrightRoll Video Summit

By Tod Sacerdoti, CEO and founder of BrightRoll

Today BrightRoll hosted its eighth bi-annual BrightRoll Video Summit in New York, bringing together over 700 marketers, agencies, publishers and influencers from across the digital advertising ecosystem. The event included panel sessions featuring thought leaders in programmatic video advertising, including Christine De Martini, Director of Global Media & Marketing for Electronic Arts, Wayne Gattinella, CEO of DoubleVerify, Jennifer Lum, Adelphic’s Co-Founder and CSO, and David Cohen, Chief Investment Officer of Universal McCann.

image

In addition to the information-rich sessions, we made two key announcements around recent advancements to our mobile video offerings and ad fraud solutions.

Mobile continues to be a huge focus for us, and we are doubling down on our efforts to expand our mobile solutions. With this announcement, advertisers can now access Yahoo App Publishing inventory, which includes 10,000 high-quality apps and premium games, through the BrightRoll Marketplace. Additionally, we completed the implementation of Nielsen Digital Ad Ratings to provide advertisers with tools to measure the success of cross-device video ad campaigns. Lastly, we shared news of our contribution to the updated MRAID Video Addendum, which makes in-app interactive video easier to implement and measure.

Alongside the mobile expansion announcement, we shared an exciting development in the ongoing fight against ad fraud in programmatic video. Working with third-party and in-house technology, BrightRoll has reduced non-human traffic in its marketplace to roughly 5 percent across all tested vendors - five times lower than the industry average of 23 percent, as measured by ANA and WhiteOps in a recent study. Taking it a step further, we announced that advertisers will now have access to DoubleVerify’s fraud protection solution on a managed basis through the BrightRoll DSP. This partnership reflects another step BrightRoll has taken toward giving advertisers their choice in the highest quality inventory, in a safe and transparent environment.

Check out the press releases in our newsroom for more information on each announcement.

Adding New Video Ad Formats For Advertisers and App Marketers

By Prashant Fuloria, SVP Advertising Products

Today, more than ever, consumers are showing they love engaging with digital video across their devices. Whether it’s the latest highly anticipated movie trailer, a video from a friend on Snapchat or binge watching Community, consumers are taking advantage of all the new ways they can watch videos, no matter what device they’re using at the moment.

At Yahoo we fundamentally believe that digital advertising should be as delightful and engaging as the best content on the web. We also understand that marketers have a number of goals across their different campaigns - and we think they should be able to benefit from the value of video no matter what they’re trying to achieve, from brand awareness to app installs, which is why I’m thrilled to announce these two new powerful formats to help advertisers to reach their audiences: native video and video app-install ads.

With native video ads, we’ve combined two of our most engaging formats so that brand content can be as compelling as video can be as beautifully integrated to the other experiences on our homepage, digital magazines and apps. And it works -  when we conducted a blind case study, we found that viewing native video ads on Yahoo increased brand favorability up to 50 percent and purchase intent up to 28 percent.

For marketers and developers looking to drive installs, we’re now offering a format that combines the engagement of video and the performance of install ads. Add to that formula the unmatched targeting capability of Yahoo and Flurry Persona data to reach just the right mobile users and it’s no surprise Yahoo’s app install video ads see an 89 percent completion rate, and users acquired have up to 43 percent more app sessions than average.

Our partners at Zynga have seen incredible success with video app install ads. “Flurry, and now Yahoo, video app install ads have brought us high quality installs and highly engaged customers,” said John Dionisio, Sr. Director Performance Marketing at Zynga. “We rely on them for both new game launches and sustained, profitable install campaigns.”

I couldn’t be happier announce these new video formats for advertisers right before our NewFront event, where we’ll be showing the world even more of what Yahoo has planned in video. I hope to see you at Lincoln Center next week!

In the meantime, reach out to your Yahoo or BrightRoll representative to discuss how you can use our latest video formats to achieve your goals, or visit gemini.yahoo.com to get started right away.

In-app video from Flurry and its Marketplace now available to Yahoo advertisers

By Scott Burke, SVP Advertising Technology

Since the invention of the television, video has been considered, arguably, the most powerful advertising tool. According to data released today by Flurry, consumers now spend more time on their mobile devices than watching their televisions - making mobile video more powerful than ever.

Just months after acquiring Flurry, on a day that marks a tipping point for mobile video, we’re thrilled to expand the cross-screen capabilities of Yahoo’s video advertising by integrating in-app inventory from Flurry and its Marketplace.

image

Advertisers can buy :15, :30 or :60 second interstitial ads by audience, channel or show, all available through Yahoo Ad Manager Plus. All mobile video ads powered by Flurry are 100% in-view, full-screen and high definition. Advertisers have options to choose from user- or auto-generated and rewarded or non-rewarded views.

Clients using Mobile Video powered by Flurry as part of their video strategy are seeing great results. One major US restaurant chain promoting their app with a mobile video ad on Flurry’s network ran a mobile install campaign in order to drive user engagement and saw amazing results. The campaign saw a 67 percent lift in gift card purchases and a 162 percent lift in use of the store locator.

With Flurry video ad supply now available alongside the extensive video ad supply from Yahoo and third-party marketplaces on Yahoo Ad Manager Plus, the Yahoo platform has become the largest provider of video ad inventory in the industry. Now Yahoo advertisers can run engaging video ads on Flurry’s network and Marketplace, and also can combine the power of Flurry personas with the data available through Yahoo Ad Manager Plus to better target video campaigns.
