    Instead of shrinking our ambitions for fear the Roberts Court will strike progressive policies down, expand the Court to make it less unfriendly to progressive policies.

    Thread on whether it is helpful to the cause for Senator Warren in particular (but, more broadly, all of the Democratic candidates) to run for President on a policy platform that may or may not pass muster with this Court. I think reasonable people can disagree on this.

    Free headline for headline writers "Republicans vote down bill to reopen government." That is what transpired today. If you blame congress, or Democrats, or partisanship, or anything else, you're misleading your readers. The GOP voted down a clean bill to reopen govt. That's it.

    Dems aren't trying to get changes in the budget. They're not asking for any concessions. They're literally just asking to reopen government. That's it. If you cover this as "well both sides just need to find compromise," you're failing your job as a journalist.

    Thanks Senator! This is what good inside-outside game looks like. We didn't reopen government today, but we helped keep Dems united, and the clean bill to reopen government got more votes than Trump's hostage demands. Now we build on it.

    Good work, people. After several days of heavy pro-wall calls, our phones were overwhelmed yesterday by callers urging us to reject the wall and open the government.

    McSally is running for election next year. I say "election" and not "reelection" because she was appointed to her seat after losing election last year. Her first act in the Senate is to side with Trump against her constituents. Good luck next year!

    Only 40% of Arizona voters support keeping the government closed until Trump gets wall funding, 55% opposed. Arizonans, by 13 points, say they’re less likely to vote for McSally next year because of her position on this issue

    Proposal to reopen government without strings attached gets more votes than Trump's hostage demands. EVERY Senate Dem present voted for it. Which means workers will miss another paycheck purely because of McConnell & Republican votes.

    A House-passed CR to re-open the government until Feb 8, introduced by Democrats, has FAILED in the Senate, 52-44, needing 60 votes to proceed. GOP YES VOTES: Alexander Collins Gardner Isakson Murkowski Romney

    Note: Susan Collins, who is up for reelection next year in a state 2,500 miles from the border with Mexico, voted for Trump's dumb wall funding. It still failed.
