Woking (/ˈwoʊkɪŋ/) is a large town and civil parish that shares its name with the surrounding local government district, located in the west of Surrey, England. It is at the southwestern edge of the Greater London Urban Area and is a part of the London commuter belt, with frequent trains and a journey time of approximately 24 minutes to Waterloo station. Woking is 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Charing Cross in central London. Woking town itself, excluding the surrounding district, has a population of 62,796, with the whole local government district (the borough of Woking) having a population of 99,500 (mid-2011 estimate). Woking has been a Conservative area since the constituency was created in 1950, with Jonathan Lord elected as its Member of Parliament in the 2010 General Election.
Though Woking's earliest written appearance is in the Domesday Book, it is mentioned as the site of a monastery in an 8th-century context, as Wochingas. In the Domesday Book it appears as Wochinges, being held in 1086 by King William the Conqueror, Walter FitzOther, constable of Windsor Castle, and Ansgot and Godfrey from Osbern FitzOsbern, then bishop of Exeter.

More videos like this here:- http://www.youtube.com/user/PaintYourTownSHIT I originally posted this video on my other channel in September 2010, and since the I've heard Rufus Hound do a blog/stand-up thing where he starts with 'Come to Woking', and then go one to mention most of what I'd written for this video. I wouldn't suggest that he saw my video and lifted a few ideas as it might be a coincidence, but otherwise I'd like to say. "I did it first Rufus - where's my BBC credit?" Come to Woking. If you like miles and miles of suburbia, row upon row of Lego-brick houses as far as the eye can see, surrounding an over-populated and cramped town centre, then come and live on Woking. Woking: because it is full of your favourite chain-stores and franchise pubs, but with none of the clutter ...

**This video is property of Christopher Baverstock!** Today was the day of the Ex Gatwick Express 442 tour from London Waterloo to Poole. I decided to head out and catch it but at a different location along the SouthWest Trains main line (SWML) and thought of Woking. I thought Woking was a nice location to catch trains both fast and stoppers. Woking is on the SWML between Surbiton and Guildford with services to and from London Waterloo, Portsmouth and the South West going through. It was very strange to see a GX 442 passing on South West Trains territory! This video includes: South West Trains: 159, 444, 450 (Incl. a 450/444 combo) and 455 (Incl. 455 870 with new AC traction) Ex Gatwick Express 442 415 & 442 418 If you like South West Trains then I recommend going here! ENJOY! Than...
In this next route learning video, we take a Class 444 from Woking to Portsmouth Harbour on the Portsmouth Direct Line. This video uses the free, updated Portsmouth Direct line available from DP Simulation. This is a vast improvement over the original, however there are some minor bugs which you will see in this video. I've included information about speed limits, gradients, braking points and stations. **Apologies for the volume level of the commentary, I was having problems with my mic again!** You can now support me on Patreon if you wish to do so. Woking Shah Jahan Mosque 3rd Annual Grand Mawlid. Held 27th December 2015
In this video and for the final part of my 1,500 subscriber special, I visited Woking station located on the South Western Main Line and the start point of the Portsmouth Direct Line. Services are seen here by South West Trains only. Woking was an absolutely mad station. It is basically SWT's very own Clapham Junction without Southern, GatEx or Overground there. The vantages were great but obstructions were a pain at times. There were signalling problems at London Waterloo again so trains coming in and out got rather confusing at one stage. I love this station and I will return. *cue story below* We finished at Woking and ended up with a heaping delay due to a shoplifting trespasser running along the tracks that the lot of us actually witnessed. It was quite creepy seeing him run away t...
As I'd never been to one before, I went to my local model rail show. I was stunned to see how much detail people put into their layouts, so I took out the camera and tried to do my best to capture everything of interest! You'll see: - Various model scales - Diesel, steam, and electric - Numerous countries, including: UK, USA, Switzerland, France, Belguim and more - A variety of eras, from early 1900s to the present day - Variety of railway companies - GWR, Southern, LMS etc, all the way to Virgin and London Midland - Numerous liveries, Southern Green to BR Blue and anything in between - Shunting and mainline operations -...and more...!
