Some of my favourite live music moments are from great times at the Basement. I was even lucky enough to stand on the stage once. What a treat. I’m sad to hear that it might be closed. Sydney is slowl...y changing. Live music is one of the reasons I chose to live here. Sad to see one amazing venue after another go out of business due to poor patronage, poorly considered laws, and development that doesn’t consider the arts. See More

Love the ambience of the place. A great cosy intimate venue to enjoy music. I got a dinner/show package for Emily King. She was amazing! I was impressed with the service I received, meals and drinks o...rdered from the table, no need to join the queue at the bar. Top night! Although they don't have air conditioning, they have fans scattered throughout the venue. See More

Worst venue ever- no air conditioning or ventilation & it was absolutely sweltering inside and packed to the brim. General admission was a joke. There was no standing room they had crammed tables into... every available space to maximize profits. What’s more the staff were not coping and were rude.
We left after seeing two songs of Mark Wilkinson a marvelous artist.
This is the worst venue I have ever been to a packed peak hour train with 40 degree heat and no air conditioning would have been more pleasant.

I highly recommend The Basement Sydney.
WOW. So great to see this place still pumping after all the years. I played there a lot in my younger days. Greeted with smiles, my Wife and I ...went for the Dinner package to see Steve Gadd with Hemmer and Blicher. The sound was PERFECT. Congratulations on a great sound system.
Getting back to the Dinner package. Five Stars. Soooooooooo dam tasty. We both went for the steak and it was the most tender and juicy steak we both have ever had and we have eaten steaks all over Sydney and Australia. MIND BLOWING. The meal was so good we will never forget it. We had the entree ( delicious ) then the main with side orders of chips and Beans. The Beans were superb.
After that, feeling quite full, the Musicians were about to take to the stage and the waitress said we could have desert at the interval, (which was a great suggestion by her) went down perfect with the wine we chose from the great wine list. Also a good selection of beers here too.
We both visited The Basement some 6 years ago for the dinner and show package, it was OK then but let me tell you The owners and Management of The Basement have lifted the bar way above anyone's reach. Very Impressed indeed. Such a great atmosphere here too, not one idiot to be seen. A venue full of great Music lovers.
Congratulations to all the smiling Staff. 10 Stars from me and 10 hearts.

There was a time in the 20th century when this venue rated a reputable ***** within our music industry circles. Such is the demise of many a good gig that was (money makes the world go around, not mus...ic). Always a problem when solicitors get involved in the music industry. David Mathew Wallace co-owns it with lawyers Andrew and Dominique Robinson. See More

Friday night I was the last person on going out to the club, after 5 minutes I realise that I forgot my jacket inside. I ask for the security to go inside, no one let me go inside to get it back, so I... ask for the security, he look and he found it, but did not give me back saying that the hotel was close. The promoter that was working at the party fall in front of the hotel feeling her pressure low so I ask for a glass of water but seems that this place doesn't care about any thing. Today I call and they say that my jacket is not over there anymore. A place that the less important person is the client don t deserve that much appreciation. See More

saw robbie fulks, with liam gerben supporting. both are acoustic country singers. why the basement had to keep serving food once the performances started escapes me. the ambience was ruined by people ...clanking their cutlery on the plates incessantly, a table of drunks carrying on relentlessly (is there security there?), and the staff using a soda hose that sounded like an elephant with gastro. and going on other reviews, ya gotta wonder why you'd eat there anyways. thankfully the great music outranked the bogan attitudes - of both drunk punters and staff. you guys have an rsa? Only two stars this time. The veal starters were tasteless and bland. Then we waited ages for the main meal of grilled Barramundi but then the house lights were turned off and we had to use phone ligh...ts to hunt for our meal. The biggest insult were potato crisp with t fish, what happened to real potato chips? The music was great until our front row table view was ruined by drunken rude dancing women who jammed between the tables and blocked our view. I may never return after going there for 30 years! The Basement seems to be more about the money these days and less about the music. If there is an alternative I will go elsewhere. A pity. It was once a great venue. Something to do with the manager no doubt?

The Basement is legendary, a music institution and never more welcome in a dying live music era. The atmosphere is first class and no different than other great jazz and blues bars in New York and Lon...don. The only downfall that drastically needs addressing is the food, nothing short of dog crap. Extremely disappointing to sit for a meal and a bottle of wine in front of a great act only to have a substandard plate of garbage served up. My advice is to stick to the pub basics, steak and chips, pasta, Caesar Salad etc. See More

Had an awesome time last night at the George Michael tribute! The performance was fantastic and whilst the food was ordinary our waiter Hugo could not have been more friendly and efficient.

Intimate venue - we watched Canned Heat who were great, service was very good as the place was full and the food edible if a little unexciting
But we were there for the music 🎵

Great venue for an intimate gig. Had GA tickets but definitely would go for the dinner/show package next time. Being a small venue the GA space is very small and with a lot of people arriving late, th...e standing room area was challenging with little room for all the patrons. See More

A group of us went to see " Rolling Stones" some had dinner, which apparently was good but small helpings. We sat at the back which was fine, others stood. The Band was fantastic, Mick was amazing, he... really worked the crowd! First time I've been back in ten years! Great night! Dance floor would be good? See More

Atmosphere & the show was great... however the food was overpriced. Meals were quite small, & not of a high quality. May eat elsewhere next time, & just go for the show.
