I am Zoe Todd. I write here to remember.

I am an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. I hold a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. I hold a BSc in Biological Sciences (2006) and an MSc in Rural Sociology (2010), both from the University of Alberta, Canada. I was a 2011 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholar. I am a member of the Creatures Collective and the Anthropocene Re-Working Group.

In 2015, I worked with Erica Violet Lee and Joseph Murdoch-Flowers to coordinate the #ReadTheTRCReport project.

Initially, I started this blog in 2010 to write about urban issues.  I seek to challenge the way that people think about what cities are capable of doing, and I aim to re-assert a Métis discourse into contexts where colonial erasure of Indigenous presence(s) is the norm. Lately I have also been meditating on identity and Indigeneity, and trying to understand current narratives at play in Canada today. My current work focuses on human-fish relations, Métis legal traditions, extinction and the Anthropocene in the Lake Winnipeg Watershed through the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

And most importantly, I’m trying to tend to tenderness.
