Although this article (link below) is a bit dated I thought some people may find it useful/interesting at the time it was posted, just after the death of Hugo Chavez . For reasons of space, I haven’t discussed the important and dangerous role of the military and police in Venezuela. For more on these aspects of the struggles in Venezuela please see my post The Comrade with the Gun Has the Floor. Nor have I discussed my criticism of the Chavez government’s support for authoritarian governments in various parts of the world. Hopefully in the future I can expand this article to cover some of the problems with the defence of the nation state.
