Scott Morrison is the removalist

(Meme via @CFMEUJohnSetka)

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is the removalist — removing anything that might stop the Coalition retaining Government at the next election or, at least, the things that could turn the defeat into a rout.

Morrison’s Coalition government in complete disarray

(Meme via @RandaltsRandal)

Complete with a new leader, this Government remains in complete disarray — merely keeping the seat warm for Labor, I write in Independent Australia.

The lifeboat – a poem

I am become a tablet
A pill to kill the enemy within
Out damn spot rages nightly
And every day
Where hope abandons hope
And grows again
A gain that walks better today
But not so well tomorrow
Tottering between pain and moving

Out damn sorrow and take with you
The filth that spews its way
Inside
Be gone, the tablet chants
And my mind enjoins the song
Right, wrong, not long
But oh so long
That is the point

Normality returns
I see its image ahead
Is that mirage, or miracle?
A way to win, to kill your own
My skin, my soul
I am become whole
Again
Without that end
At least until my time
Not early but in fullness

Your sweet caress fulfills
The gentle hand it guides
And with your tea, I glide
Not down but up
To the fresh air
And mountain walks
Not Sisyphus
But talks of better things
Amid the clean

I am clean
Or will be, soon enough
In this I cling
To the lifeboat of life
A pill a day
With you
Not the only way
The best

Anthems, cartoons and systemic racism

Brave 9 year-old Harper Neilsen took a stand against our undeniably racist national anthem and has been pilloried as a result (Meme via @RasmusRaabjerg)

Three recent events reveal the racism and historical ignorance that infects our society, writes Independent Australia Canberra correspondent John Passant.

Is Scott Morrison really the best the Liberal Party can do?

Scott Morrison’s first Question Time as Prime Minister (Screenshot via YouTube)

Prime Minister Morrison describes replacing sitting Prime Minister Turnbull as about ensuring the Coalition puts its “best foot forward” at the next election. Independent Australia Canberra correspondent John Passant reports.

Wagga Wagga’s message to the Morrison muppet show

Cartoon by Mark David / @MDavidCartoons

The massive voter desertion of the Liberal Party in the previously safe seat of Wagga Wagga will take some explaining, writes Canberra correspondent John Passant in Independent Australia.

The barbed wire deepens – a poem

The barbed wire deepens
Twisting the torn,
Skin born of other things,
Of fear, 0Of hate,
Abuse mailed in bullets,
While geese step their way
Round the bodies
Of our living, and their dead

The night darkens day,
Infiltrates the future
Where spies gather us
For their uses
Sluices on the waterway
Of life
No fish, no fishing towns
No people with rods around

Just the silence of the flow
Where we depart
And go another way
Up creek, up river
Damn quiet
All quiet
No fronts Western or elsewhere
To ease the care of war

What for?
The society of barbarians
Is not us
But are we them?
Our bullets silent in their guns
Our comments built on dead fun
No help but more
Of their war,
War and war
Against the other
Against us

Enough! End this sickness
Destroy their prison
Their walls
Reclaim the light
Today, tonight, together

Prime Minister Scott Morrison: Ten days that did not shake the world

Cartoon by Mark David / @mdavidcartoons

Scott Morrison’s timidity and inaction have been driven by the irreconcilable differences between the moderates and conservatives within the Government and the rejection of the Coalition’s brand of neoliberalism by many workers and others.

Signed copies of my first book of poetry

In all the excitement about the contract for my second book of poetry arriving recently, I forgot to mention that you can still buy signed copies of my first book, Songs for the Band Unformed.

Here is a link to do that through Independent Australia.
