The Australian Financial Review Magazine has won Best Newspaper-Inserted Magazine at the 2018 Australian Magazine Awards (AMA), the sixth consecutive year the publication has taken the gong.

The judges noted that the magazine's surge in readership over the past year "has been driven in no small part by the quality of exclusives the magazine has delivered, including interviews with HRH Prince Charles, Francis Ford Coppola, Pharrell Williams and Harry Triguboff".

Finalists in the same category were fellow Fairfax title Good Weekend, and News Corp magazines Stellar and The Weekend Australian Magazine.

At a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday night, AFR Magazine deputy editor Pip Coates accepted the award on behalf of editor Matthew Drummond. "This is a real credit to our team," said Coates.

"In the past year, print readership has grown 10 per cent and digital readership 32 per cent. It reaffirms our belief that Financial Review readers want us to keep pursuing stories of substance and delivering them with style."

Fairfax stablemate Executive Style Magazine won Best Innovation/Brand Extension of the Year. The 10-year-old digital brand launched a quarterly luxury magazine last year. The judges said they "were impressed with the bravery of the digital-to-print move and the success achieved by bucking the established trends".

Morry Schwartz, 70, who owns The Saturday Paper, The Monthly, Australian Foreign Affairs and the Quarterly Essay, was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame for his 45 years in the publishing industry.
