Man stopped to help woman fix her car, then allegedly assaulted her

A 19-year-old woman was targeted in an "opportunistic" alleged indecent assault by the same man who offered to help fix her car when she pulled over after a crash in Bankstown on Thursday.

Around 6pm on Thursday the woman was driving along Chapel Road South when the car she was driving was involved in a crash with another vehicle.

When the woman pulled over at a nearby BP service station to assess the damage a 36-year-old man approached to offer her assistance.

"She has stopped in to the service station as a result of being in the unrelated motor vehicle accident ... as her car was making all sorts of funny noises," said Inspector Dave Firth, from Bankstown local area command.

After some time fixing the vehicle, it is alleged the man proposed sexual acts to the woman, which she refused.

The teenager then drove away from the service station, however the man allegedly followed her, tailing her until she pulled over again on Albert Street, Revesby, when she feared her car was overheating.

At this time the man also allegedly pulled over his own vehicle and indecently assaulted the woman.

The woman entered her vehicle and drove away, but was again approached by the man when he allegedly attempted to enter her vehicle while she was stopped in heavy traffic on Milperra Road.

"After his advances she managed to drive to Liverpool police station where she made a formal statement," Inspector Firth said, adding that the man's alleged approaches were "quite opportunistic".

On Friday officers from Bankstown police area command attended a home on De Witt Street at Bankstown, where a 36-year-old man was arrested and later charged with indecent assault, inciting a person to commit act of indecency and stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
