specified catchments

Flood Watch for Yarra, Bunyip, Dandenong and Latrobe catchments

Issued at 10:46 am EDT on Friday 23 November 2018
Flood Watch Number: 2

Areas of flooding may develop during Friday into Saturday in the Upper Yarra,
Bunyip, Dandenong and Latrobe catchments.

A deep low pressure system to the east of Tasmania is producing a cold,
vigorous southwesterly airstream across Victoria on Friday. The low will move
eastwards over the Tasman Sea on Saturday while a weak ridge develops over
western Victoria.

In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Friday, rainfall totals of between 10 to 50 mm have
been observed across the flood watch area, with the highest totals of 40 to 50
mm being observed in the upper Yarra catchment. Catchments are now wet as a
result of recent rainfall.

Showers and areas of rain are forecast for the remainder of Friday into
Saturday, with totals of around 10 to 20 mm expected across the flood watch
area. Localised heavy falls up to 40 mm are possible for the Yarra ranges.

River rises have been observed in response to the rainfall and are likely to
continue during Friday into Saturday. There is the possibility of localised
minor flooding developing in the rivers of the flood watch area.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Latrobe River

Bunyip River and Dandenong Creek

Yarra River

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue
catchment specific warnings as required.
