Morning storms threatening Darwin

Ben Domensino, Friday November 23, 2018 - 10:29 EDT

A line of showers and thunderstorms moving over the Northern Territory's Top End may reach Darwin later this morning.

Showers and thunderstorms started to build over the base of the Top End in the early hours of Friday morning. As the sun rose, towering cumulonimbus clouds could be seen travelling towards the northwest, on a direct course for Darwin.

If the showers and storms maintain their strength and don't dissipate, they should arrive in Darwin during the late morning, shortly after 10am local time.

Today's weather comes after thunderstorms delivered 40mm of rain in one hour at Batchelor Airport and more than 20mm in an hour at Jabiru on Thursday.
