GRDN is from Germany and here’s a track from his Rhede EP. On Syburg we get six minutes of chilled attitude. There are Rhodes chords and some tom tom beats. It’s all very languid. Piano comes along but even it can’t do more than succumb to the prevailing mood. A symphony of deeply horizontal pleasure.

It’s been well over a year since we had anything from New Zealand’s MYNN, so let’s rectify that with a couple of tracks from the new album Healing (available on Bandcamp at name your price).
First, Technicolour. This is a sweet little downtempo techno house tune, full of bobbling synths and hushed beats. There are little bits of chip tones and some lost background wailing. It’s all very primary colours and the warmth of a late autumn sun. Nothing too fierce just gently cosseting and soothing your soul.
Next, slowly does it. This is a more introverted track. Looks down an inside with descending tones and a lack of opening beats. They do arrive eventually but the track doesn’t get any more forceful. A babbling brook of a tune that carries you along and away like a Pooh stick emerging from under the bridge. Allow yourself to get lost from view.

Ahead of the start of the working week here’s something delightfully chilled and just a tad wistful from Tell Nina I’m Sorry. I’ve no idea what lies behind the artist name other than it’s an artist from Edinburgh. But I can tell you that the track is Rosina Encarnada and that the original vocal sample is Marina Lopez Parra singing Joaquin Diaz’s Rosina Encarnada acapella in Valladolid in 1978 (lyric translation here). This is all minor keys and major sorrow. The strings tug at your emotions. Time stops mementarily as you recall lives and loves lost. It’s a beautifully chilled teary experience.
No rest for the wicked. And you’ve been naughty. Very naughty. That means you need a dose of acid. This morning that will be adminstered by ottoman.grüw on Acid Criminals. This proper old skool acid techno. Burbling acid gives way to frantic beats and a sound that’s almost stroboscopic. This is a live recording from an EP of live tracks and has an early rave like quality. Fine work all round.

Two deep house tracks to start your weekend (if indeed it’s a weekend where you are) from Augusto and Individualist.
First up, Augusto returns. From the Netherlands he brings Underbridge from CloseTheDoor project. In my experience underbridges tend to be places of dog mess, empty crisp and cigarette packets, and the smell of wee. Augusto clearly inhabits a superior class of underbridge as this is a clear, bright deep house track full of optimism. The beats are crisp and precise. The synths have a little welcome wooziness. And everything’s simply splendid.
Next, Individualist from South Africa is another returner. Never Had Issues is the track. This starts a bit slowly and a touch low key. Focuses on the deeper end of deep house but with the kicker of something that sounds a bit guitar based. Individualist elpxaines that, “The track was born from a vocal sample that sounds like a guitar riff singing „never had issues“.” It’s also a disguised track because by two minutes it’s really wound itself up and is totally flying. Ends up being an adrenalin fuelled thrill ride. Big, bold, brash, buzzy beauty.
A triple helping of chilled music to help me face the last day of the working week. It’s been a long one so I’ve got Ben Stitt, Chill Cosby and Jesse Sewell along for company.
First, Ben Stitt who’s based out of LA. We get a track taken from his debut EP In the Dawn of my Days. The track is Outro. It’s a thing of gentle and soft beauty. A hushed drone accompanies everything. A little guitar, some piano and wispy harmonies. An endless feeling crammed into two and a half weightless minutes.
He says “On this EP I’m trying to understand and comprehend the transition from being a carefree child and teenager into an adult, and how one of the most pivotal event during that period of time, falling in love for the first time, will affect the person you will end up being.” Romance your soul to this.
Chill Cosby is a bit of an awkward name all things considered. But there’s nothing awkward about the beautifully delivered motionless. Some temple bell chimes and the weight of eons accompany rolling beats. There’s an urgency and heaviness to this that belies the title. Hip hop beats scamper everywhere until bells return us to centredness. All is again calm.

And to end, Jesse Sewell from the USA. On Ultram he takes slo-mo hip hop beats, a bit of echo and a one note piano. It’s all married to some softly sawing strings to deliver a spectacularly horizontal track. This is definitely one of those that you will want to go for on repeat- provided you can summon the requisite energy. And that’s by no means certain. Trance inducing stuff.
This morning we had a track from Canada’s Dystopian Soundscapes. Given the quality I thought you might like another. So here’s Ωmega by Dystopian Soundscapes. This is a four track EP of ‘post-Dub techno.’ There’s lots of dubbiness alongside an austere dark palette of ambient sounds. In its muted shades of grey, charcoal and slate it manages to deliver something oddly profound and moving. Enjoy.
