Maratha's lost the battle of Panipat. Ranjit Singh jee not only defeated them but instilled fear in their minds. Heroics of Hari Singh Nalla, in my opinion , best general ever, is legendary.

Hari Singh Nalwa commanded the Maharaja's forces which defeated the Afghans repeatedly. A brilliant General who was an equally good fighter Nalwa was a feared man in those parts. Incidentally it was a grave wound from an ambush which finally led to Nalwa's martyrdom.
