October: the longer view

On October 7, the first round of the Brazilian election was won by Jair Bolsonaro, a far-right candidate nostalgic for the military dictatorship. Elsewhere, the US midterms are approaching, as well as Brexit’s dramatic final act, both scheduled for November, while Trump’s trade war with China continues to escalate ever further and Russia becomes increasingly isolated from Europe.
