Dear List Member:I am writing to you on behalf of Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to stop child abuse. Our aim is to shield defenseless children, and to stop the long-term disastrous effects that child abuse wreaks on society.
In 1992 we set out to produce an authoritative, persuasive, easy-to-read publication that would inform readers of the risks associated with physical punishment of children. The result was "Plain Talk about Spanking." Over the course of the ensuing 21 years our 16-page booklet has been welcomed by educators, health-care professionals, parents and others. It can be read online at http://www.nospank.net/pt2011.htm , and we supply printed copies free of charge to anyone who requests them. We are making every effort to live up to the expectation expressed to us by best-selling author and influential child psychologist, the late Dr. Alice Miller, who wrote this to us in 2009: "Thank you so much for your clear, true, brave and convincing booklet. It should be offered free to every parent immediately after the birth of each of their children."
We have been printing "Plain Talk..." in-house on our office printer (an HP Laserjet P3005) but we cannot always keep pace with demand.
Hyde Printing of Concord, California has quoted $2,943.00 to print 10,000 copies of our booklet. We have used their services in the past. Their prices are competitive, and their service and quality of work are excellent.
We've established a printing fund, and are currently inviting contributions to it. When it's reached the target amount of $3,000.00, we'll alert Hyde to begin printing booklets!
