Children are notoriously accident prone, It doesn't take much for a child to hurt themselves even with items or toys that deemed as safe. However when toy manufacturers sell products that are clearly a danger to children, it doesn't take long for their products to be recalled or banned. Here are 5 of the most dangerous banned children toys of all time. Until Next Time... Feed Your Mind! 5) Atomic Energy Laboratory The U-238 Atomic Energy Lab was released in 1951 by Albert Gilbert. It was meant to be a fun scientific/educational type game that allowed users to set up to 150 different exciting experiments. All sounds fine & innocent but the only problem was it included real radioactive materials. How this ever made it on the shelves is beyond us, allowing adults to play with radioactive materials is dumb enough but children is a step too far. Especially when children have a habit of putting their toys in their mouths. It was thankfully pulled from the shelves after less than a year. 4) Snack Time Cabbage Patch Dolls In the 1980s Cabbage Patch dolls were all the rage and nearly every little girl had one. Mattel was constantly releasing new versions and characters in the popular doll line, including the infamous Snack Time Cabbage Patch dolls. These dolls came with plastic food you could feed to the Cabbage Patch Kid, but the dolls had an appetite for children’s fingers and hair too. There were worrying reports of kids who had their fingers & hair caught in the doll’s mechanism and to make it worse there was no "off" switch. Mattel received numerous complaints from angry parents and the corporation decided that offering a $40 cash refund and having a warning sticker inserted on the toy’s box would be enough. It wasn't, and the dolls were pulled from shelves under authority of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. 3) Yo-Yo Water Balls These stretchy rubber water filled balls where quite fun, they had no real purpose other than to be thrown and stretched across long distances. However they were made from flammable diesel hydrocarbons, and could cause strangulation if wrapped around a child’s neck. As a result they where banned in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. As of December 13, 2007, the CPSC had received 409 reported injuries, 294 of which were classified as suffocation and strangulation. 2) Clackers Also known as Knockers and Click Clacks, these heavy acrylic balls attached to weighty string had only one purpose: to be knocked together as fast and hard as possible. It doesn't take a genius to see how many children were quickly injured by losing control and bashing these heavy balls against their heads. The balls also sometimes shattered and shrapnel flew everywhere. This caused Clackers to be officially banned in 1985. 1) Lawn Darts You can still buy lawn darts, or jarts, today, but only the redesigned safer versions with plastic tips are sold in stores. The original design for lawn darts featured a heavy sharp metal tip that could prove to be extremely dangerous – and even deadly. The father of a girl killed by a lawn dart when it pierced her skull managed to get them banned completely in the United States in 1988. Before that the metal-tipped lawn darts were only banned from being marketed as children’s toys, but they were still allowed to be sold to anyone regardless of age.
