Meghan McCain posts touching photo from father John McCain's grave: 'I miss you the most on Sunday'

Meghan McCain posted a touching tribute to her late father on Instagram Sunday as she visited his grave.

"I miss you the most on Sunday," the 33-year-old caption an image of Sen. John McCain's tombstone next to his best friend, U.S. Navy Admiral Charles “Chuck” Larson.

Arizona Sen. McCain died in August after a battle with brain cancer. He was 81. Meghan, who was very close to her father, was photographed sobbing over his casket at the State Capitol.

She returned to "The View," of which she is a co-host, earlier this month after taking five weeks off, expressing her gratitude to viewers and the American public

WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 31: Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain, touches the casket during the ceremony honoring the late US Senator inside the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, August 31, 2018 in Washington, DC. A Democrat who voted for Hillary Clinton, Farone said McCain did what was right. 'He never took the easy way out, he knew actions speak louder than words and he never tweeted about it. He just got it done,' she said. The late senator died August 25 at the age of 81 after a long battle with brain cancer. He will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Friday, a rare honor bestowed on only 31 people in the past 166 years. Sen. McCain will be buried at his final resting place at the U.S. Naval Academy on Sunday. (Photo by Drew Angerer/Getty Images)

“I really want to thank all of America with being so kind to my family," she said.

“It made me so inspired that the ideals my father espoused through his career are the ideals of America. And I think there was a lot of talk about what died with him. And I am here today to tell you — it didn't. It is alive and well!” she said.

During her emotional return, Meghan said people of “all races, all ages, all creeds out there with American flags waving, saluting, praying, everyone,” paid tribute to her father.

“He would have loved it,” she added.
