15 October 2018, Dushanbe – Within 2017, 720 cases of avalanches, 41 mudflow and 23 landslides have been registered in Tajikistan, the Committee of Emergency Situation under the Government of Tajikistan (CoES) reports during an interview organized by the UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction. According to the CoES mudslides and floods are the top hazards causing the most significant damage to the national economy.
Tanyol, Khatlon, 18 September 2018 – The UNDP has built a public bath within its water supply and sanitation project for the people of Tanyol and the surrounding villages, where 32,000 people live. The bathhouse is equipped with autonomous heating system and tanks for uninterrupted hot and cold water supply.

“It was difficult for my husband to maintain our big family by working in the farm,” says Olufta, 35, a housewife and mother of five. The past two years have brought some positive change to the family budget as Olufta, along with nine other women in her districts, received four beehives into her care from the UNDP Communities Programme within the Livelihood Improvement of Rural Population (LIRP) project. Within two years the number of Olufta’s bee colonies has risen to ten.
Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 16 July 2018 – A delegation from Tajik governmental institutions involved in flood management went on a study tour to Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina to learn to better deal with floods and strengthen the capacity in Tajikistan. The tour, which took place from 30 June to 7 July, was organized by the UNDP with the financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development.
President Emomali Rahmon pointed out that despite the overall positive tendency in the economic situation of Tajikistan, poverty remains a lingering issue and affects all aspects of the population’s life in the country, as he spoke at the National Development Council meeting earlier this week. The meeting gathered the heads of donor organizations, diplomatic missions, ministries and governmental institutions, and other stakeholders to discuss the National Report on the progress of the National Development Strategy 2030 and Mid-term Development Program 2020.
DUSHANBE, 22 June 2018 – International experts on climate change René Schieritz and Courtney Hill conducted a Validation Workshop on integrated landscape approach to increasing climate resilience of rural communities in Tajikistan. Government institutions, international agencies and civil society organizations took part at the workshop.
